Gay Jobs in London

London is full of opportunities for all job seekers. There is really no such thing as a specific LGBTQ+ job, of course, but finding gay jobs in London could be as simple as finding an inclusive employer, or working in the LGBTQ+ community.

Working in Birmingham

London is one of the most diverse cities on the planet. As such, you can find a wide range of diverse and inclusive employers in London. From startups to giant corporations, there are plenty of employers who have created an inclusive working culture that represents people from every walk of life.

Living in London means you have arts, culture, incredible food, and world-class entertainment on your doorstep. The LGBTQ+ community in London is the largest in the UK, so there’s always something fun and exciting to do both day and night.

Of course, compared to other cities in the UK, the cost of living in London is on the pricier side. Having said that, the average salary in London is the highest in the UK so it does help to make your paycheck go a little further.

Gay Jobs in London

It is worth saying that there should be no job opportunities withheld from you because of your sexuality. The Equality Act should protect you and if you encounter prejudice you might be able to take action.

With that in mind, gay jobs in London can be pretty much whatever you wish. You don’t even have to disclose your sexuality.

For some people, gay jobs will mean working within the gay community. This could mean:

  • Working in a gay bar in Soho – jobs are regularly available in this area of London, known for being LGBTQ+-friendly.
  • Working in events and being a part of Gay Pride.
  • Working for an LGBTQ+ charity, such as Stonewall.
  • Running an LGBTQ+ support group.
  • Working as a solicitor or lawyer with a specialism in LGBTQ+ matters.

There are also plenty of non-LGBTQ+ specific roles that are welcoming and inclusive of all sexualities, such as therapists, counsellors, doctors, nurses, lawyers, bankers, office workers and teachers. There should be no limit.

Your Rights in the Workplace

Workplace rights mean that you are protected by law. You can’t be discriminated against because of your race, religion, age, or sexuality. This includes being harassed in any way.

You can be your true self at work and it shouldn’t stop you from progressing up the career ladder as long as you perform your job well.

If you feel that you’re not able to be open about your sexuality at work, then it’s important to take steps to protect yourself. Inclusive employers are those with a good track record of helping people of different backgrounds and creating an inclusive culture.

There aren’t necessarily specific jobs aimed at gay people but, if you want to incorporate your sexuality into your career, then you may be able to do so.
