Management Jobs for Women

Women only make up 30% of management positions in the U.K. This is a significant gender gap in the U.K. employment market and one that is important to talk about.

It is, of course, not the case that these figures are deserved. Women are not less skilled, valuable, or knowledgeable than men. They do not deserve fewer management roles than their male counterparts.

Unfortunately, there is still a lot of gender bias and gender discrimination in the U.K. workforce. We see this manifest in different ways, including the pay gap, maternity and paternity leave, and these management statistics.

At Aspiring to Include, we believe in gender equality at work. On this page, we are going to discuss more about this management gender gap and how women should be supported to reach higher positions in work.

Why Are Fewer Women in Management Jobs than Men?

There are a few different factors that contribute to the management position gap in the U.K. Such as…

There remains pervasive gender inequality and bias in the U.K., even if we don’t initially see it. All of these factors contribute to fewer women being in management positions and if there aren’t changes made to how we recruit and employ women, these statistics will continue.

This is a disadvantage both for women themselves and the companies involved. There are many unique benefits to hiring women and having women in leading positions at work. Partaking in such gender discrimination is actually doing a disservice to those companies and businesses as they are missing out on such potential. You can read more about the benefits of women in the workplace on our dedicated page.

How Can Women Find Management Jobs?

With this social context in mind, how can women go on to find management jobs?

The best thing to do is to actively seek out inclusive and diverse employers. Such employers work on reducing gender bias and discrimination in work. They work on rooting out conscious and unconscious biases and they create fair promotion and recruitment protocols. Working in such an environment can help women flourish and meet their full potential.
