Jobs for Women in Tech
The tech industry is still rife with gender bias and discrimination. Many women find it tougher than men to find a job in the tech industry. Many others find that their pay and promotion scales don’t match up with their male counterparts.
At Aspiring to Include, we believe in equal opportunities in employment. We want everyone to be able to have the same chance at the job of their dreams, regardless of what protected characteristic they might belong to. We also want everyone to be treated fairly and respectfully at work, regardless of who we are.
We have a blog on the topic of women in the tech industry which you can check out for more detailed information on the current state of things. On this page, you can read a bit more about how to find jobs for women in tech, with more practical guidance.
The Best Jobs for Women in Tech
The tech industry is very vast and there are many job roles and types within the industry. There are so many opportunities out there for women in tech and you are certainly not limited in what you can do. Don’t think that you can’t apply or aspire to any job because of your gender.
Some roles you might consider include:
- Software developer
- QA/Tester
- Project manager
- Cyber security expert
- Tech lead
- Business analyst
- UX designer
- Copywriter
And many more.
There will be different roles to suit certain skill sets and expertise. If you feel that you have been rejected from a job not because of your skill set or expertise and instead due only to the fact that you are a woman, this is gender discrimination. Gender discrimination is illegal in the U.K. under the Equality Act of 2010 and so if you do experience anything like this, make sure to report it.
Where to Find the Best Jobs for Women in Tech
Once you have decided on the role that you want to do in the tech industry, the next step will be finding the company you want to work for. Again, there are many companies out there and there is a lot of choice.
To be as happy and safe as possible as a woman in tech, make sure you apply to work somewhere inclusive, equal, and diverse. In diversity-positive environments, you are much less likely to experience discrimination and you are much more likely to get the opportunities that you need and deserve.
It is unfortunate that gender bias is still out there, and more work needs to be done to tackle it. For now, the best thing you can do is to take your business somewhere that cares about diversity and equality. Give the right people your time.
