Activities Co-ordinator Job Vacancy

About the Role

We are looking for a caring, enthusiastic and creative Activity Co-ordinator to join our residential and nursing home in the Boston, Lincolnshire area.

The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and delivering a varied programme of meaningful activities that promotes the physical, emotional, social and cognitive wellbeing of our residents. You will play an important role in helping residents maintain their independence, interests and sense of purpose, while creating a warm, friendly and stimulating home environment.

Our residents have a wide range of abilities, interests and care needs, so we are looking for someone who can adapt activities to suit individuals and groups, including residents living with dementia and those with limited mobility.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, organise and deliver a varied programme of daily and weekly activities.
• Develop activities around residents’ individual interests, hobbies, abilities and life experiences.
• Encourage residents to participate in activities while respecting their choices and personal preferences.
• Organise both group and one-to-one activities to ensure all residents have opportunities to participate.
• Arrange suitable activities for residents living with dementia or with physical, sensory or cognitive impairments.
• Organise entertainment, visiting performers, community groups and appropriate external activities.
• Coordinate seasonal celebrations, birthdays, special events and themed activity days.
• Encourage links with the local community, schools, churches, voluntary organisations and other community groups where appropriate.
• Arrange outings and trips when suitable, ensuring appropriate risk assessments and care requirements are considered.
• Introduce reminiscence activities, arts and crafts, music, games, gentle exercise, quizzes, gardening and other activities based on residents’ interests.
• Support residents to continue with hobbies and interests they enjoyed before moving into the home.
• Encourage social interaction and help reduce loneliness and isolation.
• Work closely with care staff, relatives and other professionals to identify residents’ interests, abilities and activity needs.
• Maintain accurate records of activities and residents’ participation.
• Contribute to residents’ individual care plans and wellbeing reviews where appropriate.
• Ensure activities are delivered safely and in accordance with the home’s policies and procedures.
• Maintain appropriate supplies and resources and work within an agreed activity budget.
• Promote a positive, inclusive and person-centred culture throughout the home.

Previous experience working with older people, within a care home, nursing home, dementia setting, community environment or activities role would be advantageous. However, a caring attitude, enthusiasm and the ability to engage positively with residents are equally important.

Desirable Experience

Experience or knowledge of:

• Working with older people and/or people living with dementia.
• Planning and delivering recreational or therapeutic activities.
• Reminiscence and life-story work.
• Arts, crafts, music, games or gentle exercise.
• Organising events, entertainers and community visits.
• Working in a residential or nursing care environment.
• Person-centred care and promoting residents’ wellbeing.
