Registered Manager – New Solo Children’s Home

Hartlepool, County Durham

Salary: £45,000–£50,000 per year + bonus

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am–5:00pm, with additional or alternative hours occasionally required to meet the needs of the home.

Build Something From the Beginning

We are opening a new solo children’s home in Hartlepool and are looking for an experienced and motivated Registered Manager to play a key role in building and leading the home from the ground up.

This isn’t an opportunity to simply step into an established home and maintain someone else’s systems.

You’ll be involved before the doors open, helping shape the Statement of Purpose, policies, care systems, staff team and day-to-day culture, while working alongside our leadership team to take the home through Ofsted registration.

You’ll have genuine influence over what the home becomes and, most importantly, the quality of care and outcomes we achieve for the young person living with us.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the home through Ofsted registration and ongoing regulatory compliance.
  • Take overall responsibility for the leadership, management and day-to-day operation of the home.
  • Maintain compliance with Ofsted requirements, the Children’s Homes Regulations, Quality Standards and relevant legislation.
  • Lead on safeguarding, risk management and the well-being of the young person in our care.
  • Oversee high-quality, child-centred care planning and ensure plans are implemented, reviewed and evidenced effectively.
  • Recruit, supervise, develop and lead a small, dedicated staff team.
  • Create a positive and accountable culture that supports the development of both our young people and our team.
  • Build strong professional relationships with social workers, placing authorities, education providers, health professionals and other agencies.
  • Prepare for and facilitate Ofsted inspections, ensuring documentation, records and evidence remain accurate and up to date.
  • Respond effectively to any recommendations or areas for improvement identified through inspections or quality-assurance activity.

Essential Requirements

To be considered for this position, you should have:

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a position relevant to the residential care of children within the last 5 years.
  • At least 12 months’ experience supervising and managing care staff.
  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare, England.
  • Previous experience participating in Ofsted inspections.
  • Strong knowledge of legislation, regulations, Quality Standards and best practice within children’s residential care.
  • Experience as a Registered Manager, Deputy Manager or Senior Manager within children’s residential care.
  • A full UK driving licence.
  • The right to work in the UK without restrictions.
  • Applicants must be aged 21 or over.

Desirable

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare, England, or an equivalent relevant Level 5 qualification.
  • Previous experience taking a new children’s home through the Ofsted registration process.

We would also welcome applications from experienced Deputy Managers who meet the requirements and are ready to take the next step into leading their own home.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who can combine strong regulatory knowledge with genuine leadership.

You’ll need the confidence to make decisions, the judgement to make them well and the ability to build a positive team culture from the beginning.

Above all, we’re looking for someone who genuinely believes that with the right home, relationships and support, a young person can achieve exceptional outcomes.

Why This Opportunity Is Different

Most Registered Manager positions ask you to maintain what’s already there.

This role gives you the opportunity to help create what’s there in the first place.

You’ll have meaningful influence over the home, its staff team, culture, systems and standards of care from day one.

Salary: £45,000–£50,000 per year, depending on experience, plus a bonus package linked to successfully establishing the home.

Full details will be discussed at interview.

Safer Recruitment

Successful employment is subject to satisfactory Enhanced DBS disclosure, right-to-work checks and references, in line with government requirements and safer recruitment practices.

We are committed to equal opportunities. All young people are entitled to have their needs met fairly and without discrimination. Employees are expected to promote equality and challenge discriminatory behaviour or practice.
