Our cutting-edge 9-bed Intensive Care Unit delivers Level 3 care across a wide range of complex elective surgical specialties including spinal, colorectal, DIEP flap reconstruction, VATS, nephrectomy and advanced gynaecological procedures, alongside acute medical admissions. Supported by our Urgent Care Centre and Acute Medicine Ward, the unit provides exposure to a diverse and clinically challenging patient population.

Our Outreach Team extends critical care expertise throughout the hospital, supporting deteriorating patients, undertaking follow-up reviews, and working closely with ward teams to promote best practice. Education and development are integral to our culture, creating opportunities for you to share knowledge, support colleagues, and continue developing your own leadership skills.

About the Role

As a Senior Staff Nurse – Critical Care (ITU), you'll provide visible clinical leadership throughout your shift, coordinating care delivery, supporting the multidisciplinary team, and acting as a role model for junior colleagues. You'll take ownership of complex clinical decision-making, manage resources effectively, and help ensure every patient receives outstanding care in a safe and supportive environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced critical care nurse who enjoys leading from the front and is looking to further develop their leadership career within a high-performing critical care team.

What You'll Bring

  • Current NMC Registration – essential.
  • Successful completion of a recognised ITU Critical Care Course with either 30 or 60 academic credits, with evidence of completion available at interview – essential.
  • Substantial post-registration Critical Care experience, including experience working at Band 6 level or equivalent, ideally with shift leadership or nurse-in-charge responsibilities.
  • Strong clinical judgement with the confidence to make autonomous decisions in a complex critical care environment.
  • A passion for delivering exceptional patient care while supporting the development and success of colleagues.
