World Thinking Day is celebrated by tens of millions of girls worldwide and has taken place for over 90 years. It is a day for all Girl Guides and Girl Scouts to think of and celebrate each other all around the world. Furthermore, it is an event of international friendship and an opportunity to observe the matters that affect young women.

The theme for World Thinking Day 2021 is peacebuilding, which is at the heart of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts’ values.

Girl Scouts ensure that every girl sees and has opportunities to reach their full potential. In particular, they strive to create a more fair, equal and compassionate world where every girl has a chance to feel included.

It is an opportunity to fundraise for over ten million girls all around the world. Many events occur on this day, such as gathering with friends and family, connecting digitally and volunteering. Despite the unprecedented time we live in, the girl guide community will still celebrate World Thinking Day 2021. As a result, there are many ways people can connect and get involved remotely.

Why You Should Be Aware

Some examples of how you could celebrate World Thinking Day include supporting girls and women in reaching their potential and raising awareness of gender inequality. There are a wealth of organisations that support girls and women worldwide.

At Aspiring to Include, we recognise the importance of supporting women at work. Despite making up half of the population, women are often still underrepresented in the workplace. Consequently, we have put together a list of organisations committed to guiding and supporting girls and women through their lives:

World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS)

WAGGGS is the world’s only movement for every girl and represents ten million girls in 150 countries. Over 1.5 million volunteer leaders enable WAGGGS to deliver its many activities in a range of ways. They are increasingly seeking out volunteers to support them, such as translating, managing projects, designing training courses, and more.

Volunteers can directly work with girls in their country and provide opportunities for girls to self-develop and become responsible citizens.

Girlguiding

Girlguiding is the leading charity for girls and young women in the United Kingdom. They empower over 400,000 girls to be their best and face the challenges of growing up in today’s society through adventures, friendships and fun activities. They actively encourage parents to become Girl Guides and support young women in many ways. These include:

  • Helping out at meetings
  • Sharing specific skills
  • Helping with admin tasks
  • Becoming leaders.

Girl Scouts

Girls Scouts aims to offer outstanding leadership development experience for girls in the world. They run a one-of-a-kind leadership development program for girls with proven results. It is based on time-tested methods and research-backed programming that support girls in taking the lead in their own lives and in the world.

Girl Scouts’ program is proven to help girls thrive in several ways, such as developing a strong sense of self, seeking challenges and learning from setbacks, displaying positive values, building and maintaining healthy relationships and identifying and solving problems in the community.

At Aspiring to Include, we are committed to helping girls and women find accessible resources and information for their career.
