Jobs for New Dads

Being a new dad can change everything in your life, including how you want to work. Many new dads may consider a career change or at least a change-up in their working pattern when they first have a baby. Especially due to the fact that paternity leave can be so minimal.

Many men are only entitled to 2-weeks of paid paternity leave, meaning they have to return to full-time work very quickly after their baby is born. For many families, this can cause a great deal of stress and worry. Many men feel left with a difficult decision between spending enough time with their newborn child and bringing in enough money to support their household.

To help out with this problem, on this page, we are going to talk more about the best jobs for new dads and where to find them.

What is the Best Kind of Job for New Dads?

As looking after a new baby is so challenging and yet paternity leave can be so minimal, many new dads may be searching for jobs that allow them to spend more time at home with their family. The most common job options that allow this are:

  • Working from home jobs: Jobs that allow the employee to work from home all of the time can be a great option for new dads. Being physically in the household even while working can make it easier for both parents to share job responsibilities.

  • Hybrid roles: Hybrid roles are those that enable the employee to work from home sometimes and in the office the rest of the time. How this time is split will depend on the job. Many new parents find this way of working easier than being in the office full time.

  • Freelance work: Working freelance gives new parents the option to work from home as much as they want, it also means that they can choose their own hours. Both of these factors make it easier to look after a new baby and share household responsibilities while continuing to earn a salary.

  • Jobs with flexible working hours: Flexible working hours give new dads more control over their working day. They can work in a way that is better suited to their new routine, without losing any of their typical monthly wages.

  • Part-time jobs: If they are able to afford it, some new dads may consider taking a part-time job to spend more time with their baby. Some families may consider both parents taking a part-time job, with alternate schedules, so that both parents may share the responsibility of both childcare and working.

For new dads, flexibility, control, and the ability to adapt to an entirely new way of living are the best qualities to find in a job. Old-fashioned gender roles are no longer how many people want to live, equal sharing of responsibilities between parents is more common than ever before.
