As a technical lead, you will be responsible for architecting the product, leading technical decisions, driving consensus within the team, reviewing pull requests, and committing high-quality code and tests.Culturally, we are mostly consensus based and we value high-quality writing to convey information as a medium for debate, typically structured around RFCs. The wider team (including the software team) is very multicultural, with over eighteen nationalities represented, and we are always looking to improve the diversity of the team.We are building a highly complex product, and a completely new category of system for the construction industry, and so you will need to absorb lessons from other industries, as well as be ready to experiment with brand new techniques and technologies. For this role, you must have proven experience in building data-intensive applications, and enabling organizations to scale through excellent software architecture. We also expect you to have a deep understanding of cloud-native systems, and to be able to build them at a high pace.As a small company, every member of the team has a huge impact on what we build, how we build it, and how we work together. Your role will be a mix of technical leadership, and direct contribution to the codebase. You will also work alongside our CTO and the team to architect and build our Physical Intelligence Platform, developing and incorporating several new products across 2021/22. For that, we’re looking for an outcome-focused individual, who is capable of balancing business needs and technical requirements.In addition to leading technical discussions, we expect you to be an excellent individual contributor, committing high quality code and tests, as well as providing rigorous feedback as part of our code reviews. As a technical lead, we also expect you to provide more junior members of the team with technical mentorship, and help them develop their technical skills.*Key Responsibilities:* * Architect and develop our Physical Intelligence Platform alongside our CTO and your team, balancing business needs with technical requirements. * Lead technical decisions and drive consensus by writing and reviewing RFCs. * Contribute high-quality, elegant code and tests (unit, integration, e2e). * Review pull requests and provide rigorous, constructive feedback. * Collaborate closely with other teams (e.g. hardware, product, design, and CX) to build and support our products. * Work with the commercial and product teams to shape our enterprise offerings, building systems to ingest data from some of the biggest construction companies in the world and APIs to provide them with intelligence, directly plugged into their systems.*About You:** Proven experience in architecting data-intensive applications. * A deep understanding of how to build cloud-native systems. * Strong DevOps fundamentals, especially around Linux and Observability. * Solid understanding of RDBMSs, TypeScript, and Node.js. * An excellent level of programming ability in more than one language. * Proven experience as a technical lead (formally or informally). * Strong testing experience, at various levels of integration.*Bonus points for:** ** Impressive technical writing skills. * Experience working with high-volumes of time-series data. * Experience with ontologies and graphical models.* Experience building systems incorporating machine learning.*Our Stack:** Most of our platform is written in Typescript/Javascript, with Node.js on the back-end. * We also use Python for a few services (for data science purposes). * Our front-end is written with React/Redux, and we have react-native app. * The infrastructure is built atop docker and ansible, running on Digital Ocean droplets. * Data-storage is done by PostgreSQL while inter-service communication is mostly done through RabbitMQ.-* 25 days of annual leave plus 8 bank holidays (33 days total)* We close over the end-of-year holidays (so everyone can spend time with loved ones)* Flexible working options* Enhanced Parental Leave* A centrally located office in London, right by Blackfriars Station* Open communication across departments* Training and development opportunities* A safe and open-minded culture* Regular company outings and events (E.g.
