Boeing has implemented a new COVID-19 Vaccination Policy in Australia that requires all new Boeing Australia hires to show proof of being fully vaccinated from COVID-19, or have an approved medical exception by 3 December 2021. For Victorian based employees, the compliance date is 26 November 2021.

All other global Boeing locations do not have a vaccination requirement at this time.


As the advanced central research and development organization of The Boeing Company, Boeing Research & Technology (BR&T) provides innovative technologies that enable the development of future aerospace solutions while improving the cycle time, cost, quality and performance of existing Boeing products and services.

As part of BR&T, the Manufacturing Technology Integration (MTI) group is responsible for integrating and implementing advanced manufacturing technologies and processes into the production systems of Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA), Boeing Defence, Space & Security (BDS) and Boeing Global Services (BGS). MTI providing engineering support and services to these Boeing business units.

The Role:

As an Operations Technology Engineer, you will provide engineering support and services in the field of Operational Technology in both a Production facing (supporting the BCA Fabrication machining site, Boeing Sheffield) and research and development facing spaces.

The Boeing Sheffield uses advanced CNC machining technologies and processes to produce metal machined components for use in Boeing aircraft.

Operational Technology or OT is a category of computing and communication systems to manage, monitor and control industrial operations with a focus on the physical devices and processes they use.

Production facing roles and responsibilities will include the following:

  • Accountable for capturing, managing and when necessary restoring machine tool / HMI system backups.

  • Configuration management, version control of machine tool / HMI operating system and applications.

  • The ability to manage, validate and install software and firmware updates from OEM vendor (e.g. Siemens).

  • The ability to manage, validate and install security patches issued from Boeing IT on non-Boeing managed compute devices.

  • Liaise with maintenance and IT to provision non-Boeing compute devices which require a network connection.

  • If a software patch fails, the person should be competent to restore the machine / HMI to previous good state, minimising downtime.

  • Team with cross-functional groups to develop and review bids and procurement specifications for new equipment and technologies.

  • Team with cross-functional groups, and lead sub elements of the introduction to site of new equipment and technologies.

Research and development roles and responsibilities will include the following:

  • Perform investigations, research, development, evaluation and support integration of operational technology in the form of robotics, automation and CNC metal machinery and processes related to equipment and tooling for applicability to programs and products.

Work Authorisation:

This requisition is for a locally hired position in the UK. Candidates must have current legal authorisation to work immediately in the United Kingdom. Required Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will demonstrate enthusiasm for advanced metals machining processes, tooling and technologies, and enjoys working in multi-disciplinary and diverse team.

You will act as the day to day interface between the site and the BR&T team, attending daily stand ups and meeting. Capturing requirements and documenting formal requests for OT work from the site to BR&T.

Good project management, tracking and time management skills will be required as project and task durations will vary from days to months and may run in parallel.

As a member of Boeing‘s MP&P community you will be required to connection across the Boeing Enterprise to access input from stakeholders, subject matter experts (SME’s) and engineering custodians.

The ideal candidate would ideally:

  • Have strong knowledge of Siemens Sinumerik, Simotics and Simotion, hardware and software or CNC systems.

  • Have strong knowledge of industrial communication standards such as OPC UA, Profinet, Profibus.

  • Have knowledge CNC machine metal machining processes, milling, turning hardware.

  • Demonstrate minimum 5 year industry experience and track record, regardless of formal qualifications OR Degree level or above with minimum 2 years experience.
