Role purpose

An integral member of the Italian Marketing & Business Development (BD) team, this role will involve providing day-to-day, practical business development support and advice to our practice groups, working closely with the partners and counsels to drive marketing and BD activities.
The successful candidate will also work closely with the other Italy Marketing & BD team members, providing support in other areas where and when necessary.
The Coordinator will need to become an integral part of the practice group’s team locally and globally, and be an important source of information on marketing and BD initiatives liaising between Italy and the other offices across our global network.

Role and responsibilities

  • New business proposals – Research, coordinate and prepare pitch presentations, proposals and credentials statements for the Italian practice (often to very tight deadlines). The Coordinator will be required to respond to requests for proposals (RFPs) and other more informal requests for pitches and input to documents prepared by and from our network of offices. Capture and register pitch/proposal outcomes and act upon feedback. Maintain systems to ensure accurate, tailored documents are prepared efficiently.
  • Legal directories and deal reporting – Working with PAs and associates to coordinate and assist in drafting annual legal directory entries (promoting Italian legal expertise) and facilitating interviews. Working with PAs and associates and coordinating with London BD teams for Italian deal data collection for league tables;
  • Internal communications – Oversee the maintenance of and share market/client intelligence (e.g. pipeline deals, major players, market shares, key client contact moves and developments) to partners, counsels and associates by using all the A&O internal and external tools available (i.e. on-line research tools). Oversee generation of Italy marketing & BD report; Collate and pull together information for internal global newsletters/practice updates.
  • BD ‘basics’ – Responsible for the availability, production, maintenance and quality of the BD tools via EPiC. Work with PAs to maintain updated collateral, credentials, CVs, internet etc; also responsible for the quality of BD tactics such as marketing communications (hard copy and online), ensuring a client-focused and commercially-driven approach and integration with broader campaigns.
  • CRM – Assist partners, counsels and BD colleagues in the development of strategic client relationships.
  • Client events and hospitality – Organisation of marketing events (e.g. hospitality, seminars). Project manage the event/hospitality from conception through to post-event, liaising with the Marketing & BD team, partners/ associates and central support services in order to give the best return on investment to meet agreed objectives for the target market.
  • Additional projects – Opportunity to participate in and/or coordinate local, departmental or practice area projects.
Who we are looking for
  • Bright graduate with preferably 2 – 3 years professional/partnership experience, coordinating projects across the marketing mix. Experience in the legal sector would be a particular advantage.
  • Relevant marketing experience – ideally within a law firm or other professional services organisation or where the individual frequently worked with senior management.
  • Ability to assimilate large amounts of  information quickly and an interest in business and economic affairs, both Italian and global. 
  • Enthusiasm to develop in-depth understanding of Allen & Overy’s relevant business and our positioning in Italy and globally in terms of the market, deals, key players and the competition.
  • Good organisational skills – able to multi-task (especially urgent requests), strong time management skills, work well under pressure and be committed to ‘getting the job done’.
  • Mother tongue Italian with excellent English – both oral and written.
  •  Excellent writing skills and attention to detail, with an eye for accuracy.
  • Ability to understand the wider business issues and to generate and develop new ideas to add value to the business development process.
  • Gains respect and credibility quickly.
  • Good humoured with a positive outlook and  proactive approach.
