In 2010, MOD awarded Boeing the £800 million Future Logistic Information Services (FLIS) contract as its Support Chain Information Services (SCIS) Delivery Partner. SCIS is a partnering arrangement between the MOD and Boeing Defence UK to improve the reliability and capability of the logistic information systems and services that deliver engineering, supply chain and business intelligence information. Boeing provides secure, stable and resilient SCIS services by assisting the MOD in streamlining and optimising its end-to-end logistics information system into an agile and effective capability that underpins the support chain.

To lead, inspire and manage a team of some six staff working with the Authority Customer and the Front Line Commands to provide capability support within the function of finance and accounting. Specifically the Manager shall be responsible for the day-to-day activities and outputs of the team and shall ensure that staff are performing to the highest levels, accurately recording activity and delivering outputs that are aligned to the agreed requirements of any project or change.

The manager shall ensure that team members have the necessary skills; or will liaise with the wider DIS organization to obtain them to ensure that live services can be sustained and issues, problems and actions resolved within the SCIS Contract SLAs.

The manager is responsible for all of the performance management of the team and will do so in accordance with Boeing policies and procedures.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Be the primary point of contact with the MOD for the applications and services that deliver financial and/or accounting services to the MOD.

  • Ensure that the services, within their accountability, meet the requirements of the SCIS Contract and the stated SLAs/KPIs. Proactively manage issues, problems or changes in live services, project scope and identify potential crises by devising and implementing suitable contingency plans.

  • Task and manage the activity of assigned project manager(s) to deliver any new requirements or changes that are for the services and applications within their scope of responsibility.

  • Communicate effectively, in an open and engaging manner, what is expected of each team member and to wider stakeholders as necessary, the status of any work in a timely and clear fashion.

  • Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within their team’s responsibilities or to notify senior management at the earliest opportunity.

  • Interact and manage third party suppliers in conjunction with the Supply Chain Management team as necessary to achieve the service levels and the desired outcomes of the services.

  • Negotiate, where appropriate, with other SCIS managers or DIS department managers for the requisition, loan of required personnel from within DIS or BDUK.

  • Identify and actively manage opportunities, risks and issue to ensure effective and efficient resolution.

  • Produce governance inputs in accordance with the SCIS Contract and weekly/monthly SCIS operational governance regime.

Personal attributes:

  • In order to be successful the individual must be enthusiastic, hands on in their approach and possess excellent written and oral communication skills. They must be open, confident when interacting with seniors, peers and subordinates both within DIS and with the MOD and any suppliers to BDUK.

  • This role requires that the individual has a high level of commercial acumen, customer focus and people management skills. They should have a proven ability to deliver to time Cost and Quality.

  • The measurements of success in the role are the ability to meet the Contract SLAs and KPIs and the on time delivery, to cost and quality requirements of assigned proposals and contracted work along with positive customer feedback.

Typical Education and/or Experience:

  • Experience of managing and delivering information in the Defence or Government is highly desirable.

  • Should be highly competent in use of all MS Office tools and be willing to learn new applications/capabilities as they become available.

  • ITIL knowledge and an understanding of the software development lifecycle would be desirable but not essential.


  • Must be willing and eligible to undergo SC level clearance
