Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust as Head of Medical Workforce. You will be a key player in our leadership team, providing senior leadership and direction to the medical workforce department in line with the Trust’s people strategy.

You will be working in partnership with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to develop innovative recruitment and retention initiatives across the medical workforce.

The Head of Medical Workforce will oversee the day-to-day operations of the team and provide your professional expertise and inclusive leadership style to maximise efficiency and overall effectiveness of the services.

We are looking for an individual with drive, energy and the personality to make an immediate impact, supported by the experience, qualifications and skills to add value to our organisation. Your success will be built upon your CIPD qualification, or equivalent knowledge and you will have Medical recruitment experience.

This post is predominantly based at Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and 6 Orsman Road (you will also be able to work from home for 1-2 days per week).

Main duties of the job

Key areas of operation are as follows

  • Resourcing – ensuring the trust is able to effectively and safely recruit the range of Doctors required to provide high quality services at HUHFT as well as fill gaps on a temporary and interim basis
  • Medical Job Planning & Rota Management – working with Medical and Service Leaders to ensure job planning and rota development/management meets the needs of the services provided at the Homerton as well as satisfies education and development commitments
  • Medical Terms and Conditions – ensuring the trust complies with Medical Terms and Conditions and is abreast of developments
  • Medical Governance – ensuring employment practice at HUHFT is undertaken to high levels of quality and safety
  • Employee Relations : Casework – working with the Medical Director to ensure where employee relations issues arise these are dealt with in line with Maintaining High Professional Standards (MHPS)
  • Employee Relations : Collective – working with the Local Negotiating Committee (LNC) and Medical Council to ensure the policy framework at HUHFT for medical colleagues is fit for purpose and that issues that arise in respect of the medical workforce are addressed
  • Joseph Hospice – provide Medical Workforce services under SLA to the local hospice
  • Team Management and Budget Management – managing the Medical Workforce team to deliver high levels of service to the organisation within agreed resources
