Our client is recruiting for a Head of Engineering to direct and coordinate all engineering activities within the company’s pharmaceutical manufacturing factory, including equipment maintenance, facility & utility management, process engineering and qualification to ensure overall plant goals and objectives are accomplished.
This position is part of the site leadership team and has been created due to consistent business growth. In this new and exciting role as the Head of Engineering, you will be a key stakeholder in the Engineering and Manufacturing teams. The successful candidate must be career-driven, have strong leadership skills, and depth of experience in driving strong manufacturing engineering and maintenance teams. Must be able to undertake occasional travel when needed.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for the leadership and development of the following teams: Facilities and Process Maintenance, Critical Utilities, Process Engineering & Equipment Validation
Oversee acquisition, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposition of building systems, production equipment and equipment
Manage the finances of the engineering function, analyse financial information, prepare and manage operating and capital budgets, and monitor revenues and expenditures to contain costs
Develop and implement capital activities
Identify areas for engineering and financial improvement and enable their inception while maintaining an appropriate level of availability and reliability of equipment
Responsible for the successful implementation of highly technical or involved engineering projects in the creation and development of automatic, semi-automatic and manually controlled production machines and auxiliary equipment
Prioritise engineering projects and assignments for completion
Develop strategy and lead the implementation of systems and processes
Charter, track metrics for, and lead continuous improvement efforts and Reliability-Centred-Maintenance / Equipment Reliability aspects
Direct investigations into equipment failures and implement changes to avoid future occurrences
Develop and implement procedures and practices to meet safety, regulatory, and financial requirements and maintain compliance. Ensure the safe and effective introduction of new equipment, capital expenditure and process improvement technologies.
Establish systems to document and maintain process validation and drawing compliance.
Experience:
At least 8 years’ experience in either pharmaceutical, medical device, chemical manufacturing, food manufacturing or other highly regulated environment
At least 5 years’ progressive management experience including leading an engineering or maintenance team
Knowledge of all phases of project management including architecture and design, electrical, mechanical, structural, telecommunications, life cycle management for capital equipment, line extensions and process product development
Experience with plant systems such as clean steam, Water for Injection, autoclaves etc.
Thorough knowledge in Mechanical, Electrical, and Industrial Engineering, Technical Management, Project Management, Operations/Production and Process Engineering
Knowledge of Machine Controls, Drafting, Budgeting, Costing, Financial Systems, Communication, Development and GMP, Quality System Regulation, and ISO Requirements
Knowledge of inventory and purchasing systems
Direct validation experience
Six Sigma/Lean certification/Total Productive Maintenance strongly preferred
Desirable:
Previous experience of working with a brownfield site or new factory set up
A third level qualification or similar in engineering; acceptable disciplines would be mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or industrial engineering
Qualification in Lean or Six Sigma
