Job Description

Are you passionate about meticulous material planning and attention to detail?  Do you have established experience working with an MRP system, such as SAP?  We have a fantastic opportunity here at Smiths Detection for an experienced Material Planner based from our Hemel Hempstead site.

As a Material Planner you will coordinate and expedite the flow of materials (from suppliers and also within departments) according to production schedules. You will be responsible to balance demand against capacity (supply) and to take relevant actions that ensure the factory delivers to plan.You will be liaising with the Planning, Production, Quality and Procurement teams, the role holder will ensure that customer priorities are met and to establish product availability dates. The Vendor on Time Delivery (VOTD) to Factory is essential for this role. If you are a person who enjoys problem solving and have a can-do attitude you are ideal for this role.

Standard security clearance will be required including minimum 3 years UK residency.
You will be expected to do

Working closely with vendors to ensure on-time delivery of materials. Pro-actively working with vendors to resolve any potential delay in material shipment. Build strong relationships with vendors
Supporting supply chain strategy by using different replenishment techniques depending on characteristics of material • Comply to site and global supply chain inventory metrics
Implementing and managing supply programmes to support production
Optimise inventory levels by commodity. Aim to bring materials in a timely manner without compromising production.
Purchasing components, sub-contracted services and finished products
Reconciling material non-conformities within the ISO quality programme
Supporting business improvement programmes such as Continuous Improvement, Kaizen, Lean etc
Supporting the Materials Manager as required
Complying with and promoting all relevant legal requirements & Smiths policies and procedures, including business ethics, data protection and health & safety
Performing other related duties as required and assigned.
Support the engineering change process meetings where required.
Performing analysis of vendor on time delivery (VOTD) data and share with the suppliers to drive improvement

Inventory management skills including cost savings, inventory reduction and inventory best practice
Knowledge and experience in SAP (system) is desirable.
Education/training:

Required: Demonstrable proficiency in MS Office suite, particularly Word and Excel. Related working experience in specialising in Purchasing / Inventory / Material & Warehouse / Production Planning
Desirable: A professional supply chain qualification, e.g. CIPS / APICS. SAP business systems trained.
