Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (SFHFT) is seeking to appoint a Deputy Moving and Handling Coordinator with excellent interpersonal and organisational skills to join the People Development team within the Corporate Division on a Secondment for 8 months.

The ideal person will be an ambitious and enthusiastic registered healthcare professional who has experience or an interest in the patient/object manual handling and bariatric agenda.

Please be aware there will be a requirement to demonstrate a Moving and Handling Skill of your choice with a 10-minute presentation at interview.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will work alongside the Trust’s Moving and Handling Co-coordinator in developing a high-quality patient/object handling service across SFHFT which includes the design, development, promotion and delivery of a range of manual handling training for all staff at the Trust.

Strong communication skills and ability to challenge poor practice are required to help problem solve and resolve any anticipated or actual issues related to patient/object handling within clinical areas

The successful applicant will support the Trust strategy and the Trust health and wellbeing agenda to contribute to reduction of workplace MSK sickness/absence which will include DSE/workstation assessments/group education sessions and project work.

Clinical Training

  • Design, organisation, delivery and evaluation of innovative and engaging moving and handling training. Using a range of training methods, materials and assessments in a variety of settings throughout the Trust. Ensuring that Moving and Handling training is current and in line with best practice. Create bespoke specialist training to meet needs of the service, legislation and local policy guidance, to include specialist training and advice and use of moving and handling equipment.
  • Contribute to the Trust Moving and Handling development of the training matrix ensuring training relevance and frequency.
  • Delivering clinical Mandatory training, Induction and Moving and Handling care enhanced training updates.
  • Regularly delivering training on a one to one basis, small group numbers and large group sessions which may consist of 40 or more individuals at one time.
  • Demonstrate and use moving and handling equipment in the classroom and in the clinical setting.
  • Leading on the design and delivery of Moving and Handling programmes for local facilitators and Link Trainers.

This may be due to patients clinical condition, the environment or patient habits for example: weight distribution, body dynamics, bariatric, emaciated, unconscious or amputee.

Clinical advisory service

  • Development of safe working practices with regards to clinical moving and handling throughout the Trust in line with current legislation, policies, procedures and safe systems of work.
  • Assessment of patients in the clinical environment with complex and highly complex Moving and Handling needs for care planning, equipment requirements and discharge planning.
  • Providing specialist advice and undertaking risk assessments concerning care and Moving and Handling techniques for a variety of patients including Bariatric and patients with complex needs.
  • Undertaking audits to review compliance with the Moving and Handling Policy.
  • Working closely with all managers to ensure best practice and promote cultural awareness of the risks of poor practice
  • Investigating areas of concern, incidents and near misses relating to Moving and Handling practices whilst formulating reports, targeted training and action plans.

  • Contributing to the Musculoskeletal Team objectives liaising with the Occupational Health Physiotherapist, Health and safety Manager and Moving and Handling Coordinator to deliver staff group education sessions.
