About the Role

Speech and Language Therapist (SALT) – Adults with a Learning Disability

This is a really exciting opportunity to contribute to our MDT for people with a learning disability. In the role you will work closely with Nurses, Psychologists, Physiotherapists, Occupational and Creative Therapists. You will also collaborate with family carers, Social Workers, Commissioners, the NHS and providers of residential care and supported living.

Reporting to the Clinical Health Team Manager you will be required to deliver the best outcomes for the health of adults with a learning role supports the commitments set out in Suttons Health and Social Care LD Strategy to help improve access to work, health, independence and social participation. You will work collaboratively deploying your specialism to support the work of the wider the team, Speech and Language Therapists are responsible for functional communication assessments and related interventions. They establish systems devises) to enable service users and their carers to communicate. They also provide general advice related to communication and record assessments, support plans and reviews on our database.

Sutton has embraced hybrid working and, although you will be required to work face to face with service users, there will also be ample opportunities to work remotely.

Main duties of the job

This is a really exciting opportunity to join a friendly multidisciplinary team of health professionals. We are also working with colleagues to increasing the uptake of employment and daytime opportunities and improve respite provision for carers.

– Be a qualified, registered Speech and Language Therapist (SALT)

Job responsibilities

The Clinical Health Team is a specialist health service for adults with learning disabilitieswhose health needs cannot be met by mainstream health services.The Team provide services are provided to those adults with learning disabilities who areregistered with a Sutton GP.

Team Functions

The delivery of health inputs provided by trained clinicians specialist in thefield of learning disabilities where needs cannot be met by mainstreamservices alone.

Promoting well being through activities such as health promotion andpreventative lifestyle activity.

Facilitating access to mainstream services and supports such as; primarycare; acute care; leisure opportunities: housing; etc.

Contributing to service developments and using knowledge about needs;effectiveness of current services and future demand to inform andcontribute towards strategic commissioning.

Imparting skills by teaching and training others such as social careproviders; voluntary sector staff; and other health professionals.

Representative accountabilities

Deliver service activities and manage caseloads to ensure intended outcomes forcustomers and the CCG/Council are delivered within agreed service standards.

Liaise with customers to review service requirements and resolve problems.

Identify and implement improvements in own work area in order to delivercontinuous service improvement and improved outcome to customers.

Keep up to date with changes in relevant policy and legislation to ensure deliveryin own work area is effective and complies with appropriate regulations/statutoryguidance.Budgetary accountabilities

To be accountable for appropriate specialist intervention and evaluate outcomes

To assume delegated task/responsibilities as requested by line manager, includingparticipation in working groups, policy development groups and to contribute to interagency/multidisciplinary team building and policy development To provide assurance of clinical effectiveness by use of evidence based practiceand outcome measures

To supervise the work of assistants and volunteers, to participate in studentplacements as appropriate and to provide mentoring to more junior Speech andLanguage Therapist

To contribute or lead on in and develop innovations in areas of risk management,quality standards setting and clinical effectiveness

To explain the role of Speech and Language Therapists to team members,visitors, students and volunteers.

To attend relevant training and development in order to maintain and develop skillsand knowledge required of an experienced therapist and maintain up to date HPCand RCSLT registration

Accountable for performance reviews and annual feedback for Assistant SLT
