We now have opportunities for Senior Lead Analysts to join the Innovation& Planning Directorate to be part of our journey to deliver the transition of Ireland and Northern Ireland’s electricity sector to low – carbon, renewable energy. Be part of the change!

The Opportunity:

We have a number of roles based in Dublin or Belfast for Senior Analysts. The successful candidate will work with the Innovation and Planning Team to plan the power system and market of the future and innovate in how we operate and develop the grid.

The Chief Innovation and Planning Office (CIPO) comprises highly skilled professionals with backgrounds in engineering and business/commerce. The core responsibility of CIPO is to plan the power system and market of the future and innovate in how we operate and develop the to ensure we meet climate change targets and decarbonise the electricity system. Creating a culture of continuous improvement that drives technical and process innovation is central to delivering on these roles.

These opportunities are available across in all Functions in the Innovation and Planning Office – Future Markets, Future Operations, Future Networks and Programmes. The role holders will work collaboratively across the Group, engaging effectively with key stakeholders, to bring about the change necessary to deliver on our strategic ambitions.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will work on some of the below responsibilities depending on the function they are hired into;

  • Define high level market requirements for power system market changes and follow through to detailed design. Assist in the progression of these through systems development, testing and deployment. Examples of these projects are implementing change to better allow energy storage participate in the balancing market and changes to the wind dispatch optimisation to reflect changing weather patterns.
  • Define high level power system operational policy and grid code changes and follow through to detailed design. Develop proposals for the procurement of specialised services to support the integration of new technologies to the electricity grid. Monitor and report on progress.
  • Support the development and implementation of the Control Centre of the Future programme which will enable monitoring and control of the power system and energy markets of the future where at least 70% of our electricity comes from renewable sources
  • Carry out system studies to investigate and understand the evolution of the electricity system in Ireland and Northern Ireland out to
  • Drive all aspects of the development of power system insights; with a focus on process development, process improvement and enhancing the quality and governance of input assumptions
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across EirGrid and SONI in delivering on the change programme. This role will involve close working with our IT Office who are responsible for implementing and delivering system changes and also our Operations Office who are responsible for the day to day operation of the power system.
  • Assist in the development of systems change through requirements definition, business analysis and testing.
  • Support the development of business justification papers, funding submissions, cost benefit analysis, benefits realisation for market, operations and network development programmes.
  • Work closely with Programme Managers on key projects
  • Monitor, analyse and support the design of system changes required to comply with legislation arising from the Network Codes and Clean Energy Packages
  • Proactive engagement with key customers and stakeholders balancing their needs with business requirements to implement our strategy. This includes working with industry, market participants, Government Departments, Regulatory Authorities and other areas within EirGrid Group to deliver market development and operation in a cost effective and transparent manner.
  • Skills & Experience:

  • Third level qualification in science, engineering, business, IT or other relevant discipline
  • A minimum of 4 years working in a post qualification role, ideally in a regulated environment and with knowledge or experience of the electricity industry, in particular power system or market operations
  • Ability to seek out ways to continuously improve the way we work to make it more efficient and effective as well as transparent and easy to understand for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Good analysis, judgement and problem-solving skills along with an ability to make decisions and recommendations in a changing and dynamic environment.
  • Ability to develop and provide innovative solutions to complex issues in a timely manner
  • Support management reporting, ensuring that the content is appropriate, with clean accurate data and manage the maintenance and development of the reporting systems including KPIs
  • Experience in performing power system analysis using appropriate tools (Tableau, SQL, VB and databases) and/or market analysis using tools such as Plexos.
  • Knowledge of wholesale power markets, market arrangements in the SEM, Great Britain and in other European countries
