Job summary

This post is intended to provide experience for a junior doctor in Paediatric Emergency Medicine at F3/ST1-2 equivalent level. It is especially aimed at those wishing to gain more experience of acute paediatrics in an Emergency Department setting. Candidates may wish to use this job to gain evidence of competences when working towards a CESR or looking to enter training posts.

Candidates must be eligible for their own GMC registration: an active licence, ceased license or pending application with the GMC at the point of application. Candidates who do not fit this criteria will not progress through to the shortlisting stage

Main duties of the job

  • To work at the ‘junior doctor’ level in the Paediatric Emergency Department
  • Initial assessment of children presenting to the PED
  • Review children admitted to our Clinical Decisions Unit for observation or ongoing treatment
  • Complete some administrative tasks including discharge paperwork and following up clinical results
  • Deliver ‘shopfloor’ and formalised training to the medical students, junior doctors and nursing colleagues
  • Take part in audit, quality improvement projects and guideline development
