Job summary
This role is an opportunity to join a well established team. You will be working closely with Speech & Language Therapists to further develop the Speech & Language Therapy offer across inpatient mental health wards.
The role focuses on delivering support that will enable adults with mental health needs to have greater access to communication support in acute health care settings.

You will also be a part of the highly respected, passionate and quality focused Speech and Language Therapy Service for Mental Health in Leicestershire.
You will be well supported and supervised by a Specialist SLT, with many opportunities for peer support.
Main duties of the job
You will be required to have a relevant qualification at equivalent level of NVQ Level 3. You will need to demonstrate an ability to work flexibly, motivate, show initiative, work as part of a team under the direction of the Speech & Language Therapist in the acute mental health and the wider Speech & Language Therapy service.
The Speech & Language Therapy service strive towards achieving the 5 Good Communication Standards across acute health care and inpatient settings. The Speech & Language Therapy Assistant post supports this work with patients as well as family, carers and the wider MDT, playing a key role in developing adapted resources and modelling communication strategies.
You will need planning and organisational skills to organise your day to day work tasks and give direction around communication to other team members. You will liaise closely with other health and social care professionals as well as with patients’ family and carers, therefore excellent communication skills are essential.
You will be working with a highly motivated team that are committed to Personal and Professional development through ‘Performance Appraisal & Development’ and Clinical Supervision. You will have support and CPD opportunities as part of the Acute Liaison Team and the wider Speech & Language Therapy service.
