Job summary

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced pharmacist to join the Medicines Optimisation Team in Lewisham for a Secondment Fixed Term contract for 12 months. Joining an established team which has a long history of successful working relationships with our local stakeholders, you will be working closely with the Associate Director of Medicines Optimisation and a range of clinicians/stakeholders to shape healthcare and NHS transformation across our diverse and vibrant borough. Through a collaborative approach with stakeholders working across the local and SEL system, the team supports safe and effective medicines optimisation functions, to enable clinical and cost-effective use of medicines for our population.

We are co-located with Lewisham Council in modern offices in Catford, Lewisham. The role is non-patient facing and hybrid working from the office and home.

Main duties of the job

With excellent relationship, communication, and organisation skills, you will work as part of the Lewisham Medicines Optimisation Team to deliver medicines optimisation services for the people of Lewisham. You will contribute to promoting and implementing safe, clinically cost-effective and high-quality medicines optimisation initiatives across the healthcare system.

The purpose of this post is to support strategic and operational leadership and management for the development and delivery of health care in Lewisham, acting as a leader for medicines related clinical and commissioning related work-streams.

The postholder will contribute to the overall improvement of health care in relation to patient need, healthcare quality, medicines safety, health inequalities and to improve efficiency and optimisation of medicines within the local health economy working towards effective community-based care. The work completed will require a collaborative approach working with system partners across the Lewisham LCP and wider SEL stakeholders.

The Postholder will:

  • Deputise for the Associate Director of Medicines Optimisation (Lewisham) as appropriate
  • Lead and collaboratively deliver on medicines optimisation projects and workstreams within Lewisham LCP and SEL, as agreed with the Associate Director of Medicines Optimisation (Lewisham)
  • Support the delivery of SEL ICB values, strategic and corporate objectives, and the medicines optimisation team key priorities, aims and objective
  • Use clinical and commissioning knowledge and skills to contribute to the legal, safe, cost-effective and best value use of medicines in NHS services
  • Lead on the delivery of a portfolio of national and locally agreed QIPP, medicines value and medicines quality targets within medicines optimisation, as agreed with the Associate Director of Medicines Optimisation (Lewisham)
  • Evaluate and utilise high quality evidence-based summaries/information to support the medicines optimisation team to shape and inform decision making in medicines related committees SEL Integrated Medicines Optimisation Committee (SEL IMOC), local Trust Medicines Management Committees, SEL IMOC sub committees, local medicines groups
  • Develop, co-ordinate, co-produce and disseminate, clinical prescribing guidelines, policies and pathways for GPs, practice nurses, community pharmacists and practice-based pharmacists in SEL ICB (Lewisham) within an appropriate timescale to support high quality, safe, evidence-based cost-effective prescribing
  • Develop, interpret, and ensure the dissemination as appropriate important medicines related, corporate and strategic information to relevant Lewisham stakeholders
  • Lead, implement and monitor strategies to address local health, economic, quality and safety indicators for Lewisham LCP and SEL ICB; including development of ad-hoc monitoring dashboards.
  • Be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for a number of health and care priority areas, including participating in wider system transformation programmes, as agreed with the Associate Director of Medicine Optimisation.
  • Work collaboratively with community, clinical and non-clinical stakeholders, within Lewisham LCP and the wider SEL team and providers to develop, lead and implement strategies to optimise medicines use.
