Job summary

Barts Health is looking for a fixed term (12 months) Vascular Surgery Fellow who will be predominantly based at the Royal London Hospital site with responsibilities across the Trust hospitals sites.

The post would suit a specialist registrar who has completed core surgical training, or at any stage of higher training, who wishes to continue to maintain and gain experience in vascular surgery. The successful applicant will participate in a separate vascular surgery rota with no general surgery commitment.

The successful candidate will be required to adhere to the Trust’s policy on Maintaining Medical Excellence and to be committed to maintaining their standard of performance by keeping their knowledge and skills up to date

Main duties of the job

There are currently 13 consultant surgeons providing vascular surgery, with 8 WTE performing vascular surgery.

Barts Health NHS Trust is committed to a model of surgical management which involves clinicians. The vascular surgical department is part of the Surgical Division. The department and division work closely with the School of Medicine and Dentistry and the William Harvey Institute to promote clinical translational research. We also have well established links with referring district general hospitals and are committed to providing high quality specialist vascular services for the whole population of NE London and to work with the Network and partner DGH’s to continue to improve access to vascular care.

On the Royal London Hospital site, there is a dedicated theatre for vascular surgery which runs Monday – Friday as part of the 12 main theatres.

Vascular Surgery occupies a 26 bedded ward. This is located on the 10th floor of the main Royal London Building.
