East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust is in the position to offer you a fantastic opportunity! We are looking for a Healthcare Assistant to join our Urology department within the Urology Diagnostic Unit (UDU) at Colchester Hospital, fixed term/secondment until 1st November 2023. Internal applicants currently employed by ESNEFT will be offered on a secondment basis only.

The UDU is a very busy unit with a well-established friendly team of nurses.

Working hours: four shifts on weekdays of 3 days x 08:00-18:00 and 1 day 08:00-17:30 to sum to contracted hours per week. This is subject to change upon needs of the service.

We need a unique person for this role, you must be positively welcoming, effective and hard working.

The successful candidate will have the full support of the very experienced Urology nurses within the department, in addition to a very engaged Consultant team who are all willing to support you to meet your training needs.

You will need to be self-motivated and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Commitment to providing a quality service and a supportive. All candidates will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to the Trust’s ‘every patient, every day’ programme.

Please note you maybe required to undertake a Numeracy & Literacy test as part of the pre employment checks.

Main duties of the job

You will undertake a range of duties within the UDU. Providing a nursing assistant role to the multidisciplinary team and when necessary working without direct supervision to ensure the delivery of effective high quality care.

  • To fully prepare the patient for urological investigations
  • Escorting patients to and from changing room into correct procedure room, ensuring that the right patient is receiving the necessary procedure or treatment.
  • Helping the patients on the examination couch, maintaining dignity at all times
  • Assisting the trained nurses with clinical/diagnostic tasks.
  • To deliver individualised patient car, being aware of their physical and psychological needs, whilst respecting their dignity and privacy, at all times having regard to every individuals religious/cultural beliefs/practices.
