An opportunity has arisen for 2 Patient Access Coordinators to join our busy teams based at Mary Sheridan Centre. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the Community Paediatrics Service for the local children and young people and their families of Lambeth.

The ideal candidate must be organised with ability to prioritise and work against tight deadlines whilst maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. We are looking for candidates with a pleasant, friendly manner and excellent communication skills who are able to work independently as well as part of the Vulnerable Children’s team. You must have a knowledge and understanding of patient confidentiality and be flexible in your approach to working.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of a Patient Access Coordinator include processing referrals within specific, statutory timescales, extensive liaison with external partners and impeccable records management. One role will support the Adult Health department, which is part of the Adoption Service and the second role will support the clinics provided by the Lambeth CLA nurses, as well as providing secretarial support for one doctor.

There is also the opportunity for occasional support for the wider team, including Child Protection and Looked After Children and other areas of the Adoption service.

You will work closely with the clinical teams, including the Lambeth Medical Adviser and the Children Looked After Specialist Nurses, prioritising your own workload and working proactively to maintain and continuously improve robust systems to ensure the smooth delivery of the administrative service.

Main Duties

  • Act as the first point of call for all patient access queries to the Trust.
  • On receipt of all new referral letters ensure that the vetting process has been followed in line with departmental guidelines.
  • Be responsible for the scheduling of outpatient, elective admissions and all associated appointments according to clinical urgency and length of wait in accordance with departmental procedures and Trust Policies.
  • Liaise with patients prior to their hospital visit to ensure that a mutually convenient date and time is agreed.
  • Ensure that patients are appropriately reminded of their appointments. This may include sending reminder letters or contacting patients by telephone, up to seven days before their visit to re-confirm attendance in line with departmental protocols.
  • Ensure that departmental standards are met for patients receiving notification or acknowledgement of their visit.
  • Provide a courteous and efficient point of contact for patients both face to face and over the telephone.
  • Ensure that each patient is treated as an individual and their individual needs are met (ie: appropriate support is in place for their appointment, such as interpreting support).
