We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, well-motivated, either soon to be, or newly registered Pharmacy Technician to work on a rotational basis across University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust & Dorset HealthCare University NHS Foundation Trust, as a Cross sector Rotational Foundation Pharmacy Technician.

This opportunity will involve working in a truly transformational way, as part of our integrated care system in Dorset to deliver high quality care and allow for professional development and shaping how pharmacy will work in the future. These posts will afford you unique opportunities to experience diverse roles providing services across Dorset in a variety of sectors.

The post holder should be ready for a new challenge, and show initiative to build on knowledge gained from their initial 2 years education & training to develop foundation practice. TheFPT Programme is designed to enable newly qualified pharmacy technicians to demonstrate learning outcomes from the APTUK Foundation Pharmacy Framework supporting development from foundation to advanced practice.

We welcome applications from candidates who have completed their training in any area of pharmacy including acute hospital, GP surgery, community pharmacy & primary care.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the pharmacy services throughout Dorset and should be adaptable to new situations and be confident to work independently and as part of a team.

Main duties of the job

The pharmacy teams at University Hospitals Dorset and Dorset HealthCare and their respective Trusts value and champion inclusivity and diversity. We are open to discussions on flexible working, part time and job share opportunities. Informal visits and enquiries are fully supported and support seven day working, staff are required to work late nights, weekend and bank holiday on a rotational basis.

This post is a 50/50 split rotations with University Hospitals Dorset your base will primarily be at the Trusts main sites in Bournemouth and Poole. Your role will focus on acute secondary care. You will provide pharmacy services to:

  • Medicines Optimisation for inpatients
  • Dispensary services including final accuracy checking
  • Aseptic preparation
  • Procurement & distribution

During rotations with Dorset HealthCare your role will focus on medicines optimisations within community services. You will provide pharmacy services across Dorset to:

  • Community Hospitals (inpatient and outpatient units)
  • Mental Health Services (inpatient and outpatient units)
  • Dispensary services
  • Community Hubs/ teams and Community Services
  • Patients in their homes
  • Primary Care Networks

Some of the workplaces whilst on rotations with Dorset HealthCare are not easily reached via public transport. Therefore, a full driving licence/own form of transport is essential for these posts. A fuel allowance is provided during Dorset HealthCare rotations.
