Specialist Biomedical Scientist – Clinical Biochemistry

South West London Pathology is an award-winning NHS pathology partnership set up by St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Croydon Health Services NHS Trust and Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to provide a single, integrated pathology service across South West London and beyond. On 1 May 2021, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust joined to form an expanded South West London Pathology partnership.

Main duties of the job

We are currently seeking to recruit to a full-time post and are looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated, hard-working individual able to demonstrate a flexible approach to work.

About us

This post is based at Kingston Hospital however the post holder may be required to work at any of the South West London Pathology sites as and when necessary.Applications are invited from suitably qualified and motivated State Registered Biomedical Scientists to join a well-established team within the Biochemistry section of this busy department, which has full Clinical Pathology Accreditation. The department actively encourages further education and CPD activities. Biomedical scientists within the Biochemistry section work on Roche Cobas 8000 analysers and Roche P612 pre-analytics.

  • An honours degree or equivalent in a biological science
  • HCPC Registration
  • Hold the IBMS Specialist Diploma in relevant discipline or equivalent experience

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience post HCPC registration in the relevant discipline
  • Excellent working knowledge of specialist subject in relevant discipline
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Knowledge of health and safety issues
  • Experience of quality management systems

Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Practical specialist analytical skills associated with diagnostic laboratory work
  • Competence in PC word processing, spreadsheet and database software
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Able to follow written methodologies or protocols
  • Able to work as part of a team

  • Ability to plan and prioritise allocated work
  • Intermediate level of computer skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
