Main duties of the job
We are looking for individuals that can utilise their technical skills to develop and improve our digital infrastructure.
Working within our digital development team you will work alongside clinical research colleagues to promote and deploy new digital platforms services and infrastructure to support the UHCW Digital and Data Driven Research Strategy.
The position of Technical Development Manager is open to an enthusiastic, highly skilled and dynamic individual who is able to ensure that research systems are appropriately designed, implemented and transitioned to a live environment effectively.

The role will hold a key technical position responsible for the delivery of a portfolio of technical developments aligned to the UHCW Digital and Data Driven Research Strategies. Using your technical skills and specialist knowledge to lead on the assessment, design, implementation, and testing phases of these developments.
Where applicable the role will also be responsible for the transition of those developments into a live environment ensuring the relevant documentation and support processes are created.
You will also have strong communication skills allowing you to interface between key users and research partners to ensure that these projects meet the requirements of the Trust.
- Manage the assessment, planning and implementation of technical developments to support the Trusts overall technical roadmap.
- Lead on the development of computer systems and associated systems used for Research projects, utilising technologies from vendors such as Microsoft, VMware, Citrix, and Cisco.
- Liaise with the appropriate UHCW Users (Clinical and Administrative), and Research Partners to ensure all user requirements are captured, assessed and considered within the design and development of the work.
- Provide advice and consultancy on the procurement, implementation, and operation of Research and other computer systems.
- Work to PRINCE 2 principles, ensuring project objectives are met in accordance with quality, budget and timescales. Documenting all project work to departmental standards.
- Develop the Digital workspace by supporting the integration and developments of the Cloud environment that fit within the UHCW Digital strategy.
- Regularly engage with other Technical Development Managers, as well as the Lead Architect Infrastructure to ensure that all technical development decisions being made are not negatively impacting on other areas of development work or on the business at large.
- Provide effective technical support and fault resolution with timely feedback to users, adhering to ITIL standards and Technical SLAs.
- Produce and maintain resources for staff such as help sheets, user guides and other electronic materials as well as providing user training.
- To ensure that data security and information governance is maintained in line with security policies and other security procedures are followed, to maintain a working knowledge of potential threats and to implement counter-measures.
- Supporting the ICT, Trust departments and assigned projects and programmes in managing suppliers to ensure the business receives value for money and the service provided meets the SLAs put in place.
- Work closely with Infrastructure teams to ensure ongoing alignment towards the target architecture and technical strategy
- Give presentations of systems to users and other interested parties as required.
- Undertake the training of staff and students in the use of ICT equipment and application software, as required.
- Keep abreast of current developments, technology developments within the computer, related industries
- Adhere to change management procedures when implanting change on systems
- Ensure that all staff comply with appropriate legal, local trust policies and statutory requirements, including health and safety, accident/incident reporting incorporating responsibilities into objectives as appropriate.
- Participate in team, professional and personal development activities and promote a commitment to continuous development and improvement.
- Participate in out of hours working as required.
- Ensure that all Trust wide standards are maintained and monitored to improve the quality of total care to all who come into contact with services provided by University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust.
