A new opportunity for a Legal and Governance Coordinator to join our team has arisen.

About the role:

Reporting directly to the General Counsel, you will act as the lead for administrative activities within the Legal and Governance (LeGo) team including admin support and meeting set-up relating to GRLs Board.

Acting as a key point of contact, you will provide administrative assistance to the LeGo team and day to day general support to the General Counsel on ad hoc projects and initiatives, including providing regular reports on these.

There will be a focus on analysing LeGo’s current admin processes and developing creative, innovative ways to improve these processes and a responsibility for setting up and maintaining processes for selection and monitoring of suppliers. Working closely with team, you will lead on the roll out and implementation of key admin projects to enable the LeGo team to scale and standardise the ways we work and report on key results.

You will be responsible for:

  • Setting up meetings and admin support for external non-executive directors, Wellcome senior executives and others in the context of the GRL Board.
  • To provide administrative and general support to the General Counsel and the LeGo team, as instructed by the General Counsel.
  • To lead and provide assistance as needed on admin projects and initiatives relating to the LeGo team.
  • To set up and maintain processes or a system to enable the General Counsel to track budget and performance of suppliers (e.g. external counsel).
  • To manage the preparation, finalisation and signature of documents, including via DocuSign.
  • To create compelling content for the LeGo intranet and internet pages.

About you

You will be commercially and financially aware and have significant experience in providing administrative and general support in a legal and/or governance context.

You are a strong communicator and team-player with a track record of working with a wide range of people of different levels (from scientists and academics to finance and operational professionals).

Adept at problem solving, you will also have a positive outlook and be able to easily demonstrate your organisational abilities in order to manage workload, able to progress a wide variety of administrative tasks and project support whilst balancing competing priorities.

Essential knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Enthusiasm for the Institute’s charitable mission in scientific research
  • Substantial experience of providing administrative and general support in a legal and/or governance context within a complex and dynamic setting
  • Commercially and financially aware
  • Strong communicator with a demonstrable ability to present ideas in an articulate way
  • “Can-do” attitude focused on looking for solutions.
  • Demonstrable ability to think creatively and problem-solve administrative issues
  • Strong team-player with a track record of working collaboratively across a varied team
  • Ability to work well with a wide range of people (from scientists and academics to finance and operational professionals)
  • Positive, open-minded with a flexible approach

Desirable knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Experience of rolling out projects relating to legal, research governance and corp. governance
  • Good understanding of charity sector
  • Exposure to scientific research or pharma/biotech environment
