Main duties of the job

Job Purpose: The post is a full-time and permanent post in the Psychology Team working as part of the Richmond and Wandsworth Drug and Alcohol Treatment Consortium. The post involves assisting the Homelessness pathway team with particular focus on co-occurring mental health issues that may be impeding recovery. The Psychology Team is integrated into the wider multi-disciplinary teams which provide treatment for dependence on all substances including alcohol, heroin, cocaine, cannabis, GBL and NPSs.

The post holder will be able to contribute to the in-house teaching programme, group work and quality improvement initiatives. About us

Facts and Figures: The Addictions Service in Richmond and Wandsworth is part of a consortium formed with WeAreWithYou, St Mungo’s and CDARS, and is set up to deliver comprehensive and recovery oriented treatment in the two Boroughs. Four multidisciplinary teams work across the consortium and have links with adult mental health services, social services and inpatient facilities. Psychology operates across these teams and you will be working within a team of psychologists and assistants. The Addictions Service is part of a Clinical Academic Group with close links with the Institute of Psychiatry.

Job responsibilities

Key Responsibilities: 1) To provide specialist assessment and clinical formulation to clients with mental health needs as well as substance misuse issues. To select, administer and interpret psychometric and neuropsychological tests, involving skilled manipulation of test materials and high level analysis of findings from the assessments. 2) To select and deliver evidence based specialist psychological treatments, monitoring outcome and modifying and adapting interventions, drawing on a range of theoretical options. 3) To assess and monitor risk and draw up appropriate risk management plans. 4) To contribute to the effective working of the team and to a psychologically informed framework for the service area both within the teams and service environments. 5) To communicate skilfully and sensitively complex and sensitive information taking account of sensory and cultural barriers to communication. 6) To identify any aspects of the service which could be improved and contribute to the service development through undertaking and participating in appropriate projects. 7) To manage agreed workload of assistant psychologists, under supervision from a more senior psychologist. 8) To contribute to the development of services through undertaking service evaluation and audit. Carrying out appropriate research to improve the assessment, treatment, and quality of care of patients. To disseminate research and service evaluation findings through presentations and published articles. 9) To provide specialist training in psychological approaches to care to other professions as appropriate and to provide clinical supervision for psychological work undertaken by assistant psychologists and MSc and other students as appropriate. To provide supervision for the psychological work of other multi-disciplinary staff as appropriate. 10) To work as an autonomous professional within BPS guidelines and the policies and procedures of the service, taking full responsibility for own work including treatment and discharge decisions.
