Job summary

Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) have a unique and new opening within their Leadership and Succession Team. In alignment with the Compassionate Leadership strategy and Succession Planning strategy for NHS Wales, this role will involve leading and delivering on a range of key leadership and succession deliverables specific to the achievement of specific actions within the Mental Health Workforce Plan for Health and Social Care, developed jointly with Social Care Wales and in collaboration with a range of stakeholders.The successful post holder will:

  • Promote and support leadership development and talent management across the mental health workforce
  • Positively target support and development for mental health leadership at all levels, and developing the compassionate cultures required to improve quality of care and workforce wellbeing
  • Develop and deliver leadership interventions to enable leadership at all levels of the mental health workforce, and the ability to lead across boundaries

The Mental Health Leadership & Succession Programme Manager provides an exciting opportunity to play a key role within our vibrant, high-profile team.

Main duties of the job

Aligned to the achievement of the Leadership ambitions outlined in the Mental Health workforce plan, this position will play a key role developing and embedding compassionate leadership at all levels and developing talent and succession pathways for the mental health workforce in Wales.

Strategic objectives include:

  • Develop and implement an inclusive and targeted talent management pipeline for mental health leadership roles at organisational level
  • Develop and deliver clinical and professional leadership solutions that align to the leadership strategy for health and care in Wales and reflect the mental health workforce requirements
  • Establish mental health leaders’ and mentors’ networks on Gwella, to improve access to the compassionate and collective tools and resources for all staff.

The Mental Health Leadership & Succession Programme Manager will develop communication plans that effectively engages relevant stakeholder groups across the mental health workforce in Wales. They must demonstrate compassionate and collective leadership behaviours and have the ability to effectively manage, engage and influence across systems to ensure projects are completed successfully, within time and budget.

Partnership working, a commitment to continuous improvement and the ability to embed the HEIW core values within the role is essential.
