Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside our student midwives and support them throughout their journey to become a midwife. Looking after all students who have their placement at Addenbrooke’s is vital to ensure students have high standard placements that are able to meet the requirements of the SSSA standards. As a clinically credible midwife, you will work alongside students in practice as well as relevant stakeholders including higher education institutes, ward matrons and the Trust education team. As a practice educator a passion to help year 3 student midwives to transition to preceptee is essential.

Main duties of the job

Some of the main duties of this job will include being visible in the ward areas to ensure that students are supported in practice, this will include working alongside students on a shift, supporting with teaching clinical skills, and supporting with assessments. The practice educator’s role will also include facilitating student training sessions including obstetric emergencies or skills teaching, and ensuring they have access to other Trust education opportunities. You will be required to support practice supervisors and assessors to understands their roles and responsibilities, and ensure that all students have access to this as per the SSSA standards. You will also have a large role in ensuring the orientation of new students to the Trust and link with the universities with regards to each new year’s intake. The role of the practice educator will also include helping to facilitate other student placements, for example paramedics, or work experience students.
