Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our food service and staff healthy eating team in a fixed term role until 31st March 2024. You will be joining a friendly and supportive team of 4 Dietitians and an Advanced Dietetic Assistant.

The post has split duties between food service and staff healthy eating. The food service role involves working as an integral part of the catering team to ensure compliance with all relevant nutrition and hydration standards, guidelines and legislation, including those set by the Care Quality Commission, British Dietetic Association and the National Association of Care Catering. The successful post holder will need to be an excellent communicator and team player, have an understanding of NHS food services, menu analysis and the national requirements that these services need to comply with.

The staff healthy eating service is a charity funded scheme as part of the Trusts ‘Showing We Care About You’ programme to support the well-being of our staff. The service delivers 121 clinics, group weight management programmes and various health promotion events across all sites of GSTT including The Royal Brompton and Harefield.

Main duties of the job

Food Service

  • Work as an integral part of the food service team to assist with ensuring the compliance with all relevant nutrition and hydration standards, guidelines and legislation.
  • Ensure that the Trust is provided with food to meet the requirements for the majority of the population and the wide range of adults’ and childrens’ therapeutic diets.
  • Advise catering of relevant nutrition and dietetics issues; providing in-house nutrition and dietetics expertise
  • Contribute to menu and recipe development including providing nutritional information as per the Saffron production system such as allergen and dietary suitability.
  • Assist with menu reviews, ensuring that the nutritional content of the menus meets national standards and encompasses all reasonable dietary requirements, religious beliefs and the wide range of cultural diets.

Staff Healthy Eating

  • Deliver 121 clinics and health promotion events and develop healthy eating resources for staff
  • Be a member of the dietetic team responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of nutrition and dietetic strategies aimed at improving the nutritional knowledge and status of the staff and users of Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.
  • Support the Occupational Health Department through the development of structured interventions for both individuals and groups
  • Contribute to the production of regular monitoring and evaluation reports for the ‘Showing we care about you’ stakeholder meetings and GSTT Charity.

About us

The department of Nutrition and Dietetics is made up of an Adult and Paediatric Nutrition workforce of over 150 staff. This is a highly complex service, delivering highly specialised Dietetics as part of clinical services across the Trust, and into the Community, including providing professional guidance for our catering services and ensuring our compliance with Nutrition Standards for the Trust.

The department of Nutrition and Dietetics is part of the Medical Specialties Directorate. The Directorate Senior Management Team comprises Clinical Director, General Manager, Deputy General Manager, Head of Service for Nutrition and Dietetics and Head of Nursing. The directorate is supported by HR, IT and Finance Business Managers.
