A fantastic opportunity has arisen to work as part of a dynamic and creative Team within Patient Flow at York Teaching Hospital. We are looking for an energetic individual to join the Transfer Team as a Transfer Team Operative.

We are a diverse team committed to safe patient flow within the hospital. The Transfer Team Operative will assist in preparing and transferring patients from the Emergency Department to the acute admission wards and from the acute admission wards to downstream wards. They will also work alongside their team in Patients Discharge lounge to transfer patients from the wards to the Discharge lounge.

Transferring patients from one clinical area to another on either in a bed or a chair whilst working closely with members of the multi-disciplinary team within the clinical areas and management teams.

The Transfer Team Operative will assist in preparing and transferring patients from the Emergency Department to the acute admission wards and from the acute admission wards to downstream wards.

The Transfer Team Operative will ensure patient safety is maintained and patient experience is positive by treating all patients, relatives and colleagues with respect, dignity, and courtesy in accordance with Trust values. Ensuring at all times you act within your sphere of competence.

Main duties of the job

  • To safely transport patients, medical notes, patient belongings, laboratory specimens, confidential documentation, patient medication, machines and equipment to and from other areas of the hospital as requested by nursing ensuring Trust patient confidentiality policy is followed at all times.
  • Work alongside the senior healthcare assistant to safely transfer patients.
  • To safely escort patients with or without oxygen to other areas of the hospital in accordance with the Nurse Escort Policy.
  • Chaperone patients in accordance with the Trust policy.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Maintains patient’s privacy and dignity at all times.
  • Responsible for packing all patients belonging and safe transfer with the patient to receiving ward or destination.
  • Transferring patients from one clinical area to another on either in a bed or a chair whilst working closely with members of the multi-disciplinary team within the clinical areas and management teams
