Band 6 Cardiac Amyloidosis / Inherited Cardiovascular Conditions Nurse Specialist Vacancy

The Midlands Amyloidosis Service at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham is looking for a Band 6 Nurse Specialist to join the team. The service has expanded since its inception in 2019 and now cares for a broad spectrum of patients both with inherited and non-hereditary forms of cardiac amyloidosis.

An informal ‘virtual’ visit via teams or in person is highly recommended prior to interview. This can be arranged by phoning Consultant Cardiologist, Dr Will Moody via his secretary on 0121 371 4472 or emailing william.moody@uhb.nhs.uk

Main duties of the job

Under the mentorship of a Consultant in Inherited Cardiovascular Conditions (ICC) and ICC nursing colleagues, the successful post holder will positively contribute to the delivery of care to both patients with and at risk of developing cardiac amyloidosis. Their role will be to provide the necessary nursing clinical expertise, education, support and guidance to patients and their carers. An important role will include actively targeting the screening of first-degree relatives of affected individuals. The ability to take and draw a genetic family history with construction of pedigrees will be critical and this role will therefore, require close collaboration with our geneticists and genetic counsellors based at the Birmingham Women’s Hospital.

It is envisaged that the responsibilities of the post will largely be based in an outpatient setting involving both face to face and telephone consultations.
