The role is based in the Newcastle office and suits a qualified accountant who will support the delivery of financial accounting services across Norton Rose Fulbright’s Europe, Middle East and Asia (EMEA) offices. Reporting to the Financial Controller, and part of a team with 4 other accountants, the role provides accounting to the EMEA region with c£m revenue and 18 trading entities, as well as supporting UK financial accounting and reporting.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the Financial Controller, take responsibility for EMEA monthly management and annual statutory consolidation processes, including preparation of consolidated statutory accounts for Norton Rose Fulbright LLP. In doing so responsibilities include: Reviewing financial information submitted by the international financial accountants Liaising with and responding to accounting queries from international financial accountants
  • As part of the financial close by working day 4, ensure month end tasks are completed in line with the financial close timetable. Specific responsibilities during month end includes: Making and posting journals for UK entities, liaising with allocated departments to ensure accuracy of postings Managing the recharges from the allocated departments Coordination with EMEA offices, including performing a review of allocated on working day 4 Preparation of Balance Sheet reconciliations for review by the Financial Controller Identifying and implementing opportunities to improve the quality of month end processes
  • Oversee preparation of UK statutory financial statements and manage through to completion. In doing so the role will be a key point of contact for external auditors and information requests, as well as being fully responsible for the accounting and reporting of some of the Norton Rose Fulbright UK subsidiaries
  • Assist with project work and ad-hoc reporting as agreed by Financial Controller
  • In undertaking the above activities, the role will:

  • Work as part of the Newcastle based Financial Accounting team whilst developing effective working relationships with wider finance community across Norton Rose Fulbright. The finance community consists of FP&A, Business Partners, Accounts Payable, Working Capital Management, Tax and Treasury professionals. Out of a team of c UK based professionals over 45 are based in Newcastle.
  • Maintain and develop good working relationships with accounting teams in non-UK offices.
  • Skills and Experience Required

    The individual should:

  • Enjoy taking responsibility, and working as part of a team
  • Be self-motivated and self-disciplined, passionate about meeting deadlines
  • Have excellent communication and influencing skills
  • Be a good problem solver, methodical in approach and an “eye for detail”
  • Experience required:

  • Qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA or ACA)
  • Working within a larger, process driven organisation (experience of professional services is useful)
  • Proven track record of managing and delivering against deadlines
  • SAP ERP system or SAP BPC Reporting experience (useful)
