The safeguarding team at University Hospitals Sussex are recruiting to this exciting opportunity. The Named Nurse will be based at the Royal Alex Children’s Hospital in Brighton working with a team of safeguarding specialist nurses and the Named Dr. With the support of the Lead Named Nurse and Head of Safeguarding Children, this is an ideal development opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced child safeguarding specialist.

Main duties of the job

The work at the Alex is fast-paced and interesting, and you will have the opportunity to engage with a diverse range of healthcare professionals. The post holder will collaborate with colleagues across the Trust to deliver high quality training and supervision to clinical teams, to develop and influence our policies and processes, and to promote the well-being of our children and young people. The role includes working with the Safeguarding Children Partnerships in Sussex; building on excellent local partnership working the post holder will have the opportunity to experience and develop strategic leadership skills.

As part of a team leading and influencing safeguarding practice across the Trust, the Named Nurse is key in ensuring that we meet our statutory responsibilities to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.

The Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children & Young People will ensure that University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust provides a safeguarding and child protection service in line with the Trusts statutory responsibility under section 11 of the Children Act 2004 and Working Together to Safeguard Children (HM Government 2018).

The Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children & Young People will support the development of the Trusts strategy for safeguarding vulnerable children and young people in providing a comprehensive, multidisciplinary and multi-agency approach. This includes working collaboratively with other safeguarding children and young people named and lead professionals internally and externally to safeguard and promote the welfare of all children and young people accessing services.

The Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children & Young People/Nurse will manage the team who will work with others to continually improve safeguarding arrangements across the Trust by facilitating effective information sharing and decision making, and demonstrable joined up planning and delivery of the safeguarding function

The post holder will provide expert advice and support to the Board & colleagues on a variety of safeguarding matters.

The post holder will lead and develop safeguarding training to meet the standards of the intercollegiate competency document (2018).
