Senior Platform Engineer Glasgow 6 months Outside IR35

As a Senior Platform Engineer, you’ll help the team prioritise their work on a daily basis as well as working with a delivery manager to communicate current progress and future priorities to the wider technical team.

Specifically, we seek a Senior Platform Engineer with experience of working with large cloud estates but has some previous knowledge / experience of providing technical leadership to a team.

Essential Skills,

  • Technology knowledge – Demonstrable technical and particular experience in the following technologies & tools:
  • RHEL-based Linux Distributions
  • Amazon Linux
  • Terraform & Packer
  • Git
  • Forman & Puppet
  • Kubernetes (preferably AWS EKS)
  • Java microservices
  • Container based services
  • General knowledge – Demonstrable Experience in the below practices and design patterns:
  • Continuous integration and continuous delivery principles
  • Experience of microservice design patterns
  • Demonstrable history of hands-on experience of platform builds and support within full stack delivery teams
  • Troubleshooting – Demonstrable experience in:
  • Hands on troubleshooting within a complex cloud-based infrastructure
  • Identifying and resolving infrastructure-based issues
  • Root cause analysis
  • Ability to create and update documentation & processes to build team knowledge base.

    • Desirable Skills

  • AWS – ideally knowledge of Networking, EC2, RDS, Cognito, Organizations
  • Experience with any or all of: Terragrunt, Icinga, Nexus, FreeIPA, Splunk
  • Working experience with MySQL compatible DBs (MySQL, RDS, Aurora, MariaDB)
  • Experience supporting the build, deployment production support of Java applications.
  • Worked in a GitOps-driven environment.
  • Able to demonstrate they have worked in regulated government environments.
  • Able to demonstrate mentoring colleagues in automation, security, and reliability, within a DevOps context.
  • Demonstrable experience of identifying manual processes suitable for automation
  • Existing SC clearance
