We have a fantastic opportunity for a motivated staff nurse or ODP to join our friendly team. You will need to be a dynamic, forward thinking nurse/ODP that demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills in order to provide high standards of care.
Previous surgical experience is beneficial and we offer a friendly and supportive working environment with a comprehensive development plan.
Main duties of the job
The Surgical Enhanced Care Unit opened it’s doors in May this year. We cater for a for a range of specialties that include orthopedics, upper gastro intestinal, urology and breast with scope for other specialties in the future. We are a friendly team of nurses who work collaboratively across the surgical areas in Chorley, striving to provide excellence evidence based care for our patients.
As we are a relatively new unit, education is a key focus and training needs will be fully supported. We also provide in-house training along with a comprehensive education programme in further education.
The main focus of the band 5 role would involve the admission, care and discharge of enhanced surgical patients. You will be given a full induction program that provides an introduction to high dependency nursing skills. Over the course of your first 12 months on the unit you will be expected to complete the Critical Care Network level 1 competencies for the care of the high dependency patient.

Some of the skills may include A to E assessment, chest auscultation, caring for arterial lines, use of inotropes, complex pain requirements and supporting the band 6 with stabilization to name a few. You will also be provided with stabilization and transfer training for the acutely unwell patient that requires transfer to Critical Care.
You will be expected to provide patient education and promote health promotion for patients in your area.
You will be expected to maintain accurate nursing records and risk assessments in a timely manner adhering to local and professional standards for documentation.
Ensuring the environment for patients is safe, well equipped and compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness.
Act as a role model, presenting as a positive image of self, team and organization.
The will be an expectation that the successful candidates will work 12 hour shifts that are inclusive of days, nights and weekend shifts.
