Priory Hospital Cheadle Royal is an inpatient Mental Health Hospital set within 33 acres of grounds and is home to 14 wards and 151 beds, covering Adult Acute and PICU, Eating Disorders, Rehabilitation and CAMHS services. We provide high quality multi-disciplinary care for our service users in order to aid their recovery and provide them with a brighter future.

We have upcoming vacancy for a Specialty Grade Doctor to work within our CAMHS Unit, Orchard, which is a 15 bedded male and female service for young people aged 13-18 with complex mental health needs.

You will be joining an established team with many years of experience and will be well supported in developing skills in working with this challenging patient group. We pride ourselves on achieving positive outcomes for young people who have spent significant periods in hospital and struggled with significant mental health issues. Quality and safe care using a least restrictive approach are key.

Main duties of the job

Your role on the unit will be to provide day-to-day medical support to the young people and the team. This will involve regular medical and mental state reviews with the young people, medication management, involvement in ward round and review meetings, reflective practice and team meetings. You will have good writing skills and will provide regular reports for meetings and for MHA review tribunals and managers hearings. You will be able to deputise for the consultant in his absence with the support of the MDT. You will also provide cross-cover for other SGDs in the hospital.

As of February 2023, out of hours cover for the site is provided by NES Healthcare and, as such, working hours are 37.5 hours per week, which conventionally runs from 9am to 5pm

Previous post-holders have achieved success in their MRCPsych examinations, have moved on to Higher Specialist Training and are now Consultants. There is an active training programme at Priory Hospital Cheadle Royal which includes regular academic meetings. SGDs also meet regularly as a group and have individual support and supervision. Examination practice is on offer from consultants who have examined for the CASC examination. Further training opportunities are available, including both internal and external CPD courses and conferences, according to your CPD needs. There are also options for becoming involved in management and Quality Improvement iniatives.
