We are looking for Senior Staff Nurses to lead the team at York House, our Neurorehabilitation Hospital for people with Acquired Brain Injuries and Neurological Conditions.

What we do at York House

York House is a specialist assessment and neurorehabilitation hospital for men and women with an acquired brain injury.

The people we support at York House may have a combination of varying complex needs, including (but not limited to) mental and/or physical health needs, challenging behaviour, and addictions. We help support people who may be detained under the Mental Health Act and others may be placed under a Deprivation of Liberty order.

Our rehabilitation uses an inter-disciplinary approach to help people with emotional, physical and cognitive challenges. Our aim is to help the people we support to achieve their goals.

MAIN PURPOSE:

To lead, develop and supervise the Nursing Team in the performance of their professional duties whilst ensuring that the requirements of the Neuropsychiatrist+ Model are fulfilled.

Enabling, guiding, and supporting staff to assist people with brain injury in the performance of daily living functions whilst maximising the development of their personal skills and potential.

To develop, plan and implement individually tailored therapeutic programmes of care and rehabilitation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • RNLD/RMN/RGN with substantial nursing experience and management of a team
  • Skilled in providing specialist advice to other professionals, disciplines, services, families, and carers
  • Experience and working knowledge of safeguarding procedures
  • To actively participate in investigation as and when required

  • Experience and working Knowledge of Mental Capacity Act and DOLs

  • Ability to demonstrate ongoing training and development in keeping with NMC requirements

2. To participate in the out of hours On-call system as required.

3. To provide cover as determined by the floor where necessary.

4. To work in an interdisciplinary Team to ensure that the highest standard of care is maintained. This will include qualitative assessment and supervision of report writing.

5. To supervise, appraise and develop Staff Nurses, Senior Rehabilitation Support workers, Rehabilitation Support Workers and others as required.

6. To maintain and monitor quality initiatives.

7. To take responsibility for any key tasks as delegated by the Ward Manager.

8. To participate in planning, implementation, evaluation and reporting of the progress and success of service users individual goals and objectives.

9. To provide individualised, holistic care and approach to the people we support and their families.

10. To contribute to the development of an in-house training programme including formal teaching, tutorials and speaking at external events as required.

11. To oversee the process of drug administration ensuring that all trained nurses are compliant with drug policies and procedures and that drug errors are dealt with in a manner consistent with the professional guidance of the NMC.

12. To be part of the acceptance and administration of service users detained under the Mental Health Act.

13. To ensure that the people we support Rights are being read within the correct time frames.

14. To adhere to Local Authority guidelines; Health and Safety, Safeguarding Board, Equal Opportunity, Trust and Local policy etc.

15. To ensure that carers/families are fully supported, involved and included in the care of their relative if appropriate.
