The MSWs (Tobacco Dependence Advisors) will deliver smoking cessation support to women and people within the Smoke-Free Pregnancy Service at UHS.

They will use interventions such as Carbon Monoxide monitoring, Nicotine Replacement Therapy and behavioural support after relevant training.

The MSWs will work as part of a team in liaison with the Specialist Midwife for Tobacco Dependence (smoking cessation), local stop smoking services, the maternity team and Public Health colleagues.

Main duties of the job

This is a cross-site vacancy to cover services at both Royal Sussex County Hospital Brighton and Princess Royal Hospital Haywards Heath. Maternity Support Workers are to act as members of the care team working under the supervision and guidance of registered midwives and other professional staff.

This will be achieved by the performance of specific care tasks carried out after the successful completion of a programme of formal training and assessment. The key duties of the MSW – tobacco dependency advisors will be

– Providing smoking cessation support following the NCSCT standard treatment programme and the relevant NICE guidelines.

– Deliver interventions such as CO monitoring, Nicotine Replacement Therapy and behavioural support after relevant training.

– Engage in data collection.
