Exciting opportunities have arisen for multiple Band 6 staff within the Royal Free Hospital Theatre team. We are looking forenthusiastic and energeticstaff forthe Hepatobiliary Liver Transplant & Retrieval team, which is part of the national Transplant programme.

We are looking forBand6 ODP or Operating Theatre Nurses who wantto develop this team at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead. The successful candidates must have strong interpersonal skills and they should be able to work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team. The Royal Free Hospital will provide training and support to allow you to develop thespecialist nursing skills required to be a successful member of the transplant team. Opportunities exist in both the liver Transplant and organ retrieval teams.

We have a good senior team in place witha CPE team, mentors, band 7s, a Matron, an assistant clinical operations manager and senior clinical operations manager who can offer support.

Previous operating theatres experience (2 years) at a Band5 level is desirable for this post as this is a complex department. Demonstration of the Trust’s World Class Care values in interacting with patients and other staffpeople is also necessary. We have also got a committed groupof surgeons and anaesthetists who will support your training.

Clinical Responsibilities:

Liaise with the Team Leader and Theatre coordinator to ensure that patients are prepared for Theatre in reasonable time and are received in to the Theatre department adhering to the Concepts laid out by the 5 Steps toSafer Surgery and the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist.

Assist in the safe handling, transfer and positioning of patients between allareas of the theatre department; including complex cases & preparing &transporting portable monitoring equipment to assist with the transfer ofpatients to Intensive Care Unit/High Dependency Unit following anaesthetic intervention

Provide skilled assistance when participating in scrub and circulating dutiesin the operating theatre and obstetric theatres

Liaise& communicate with other departments e.g. laboratory services,EBME, Sterile Services Unit

Ensure all that all Theatre equipment is checked as suitable for use prior toeach patients operation

Ensure all instrument trays and consumables are prepared and fit for useprior to each patients operation

To demonstrate clinical expertise in scrub and circulating practice within the operating department and obstetric theatres

To be responsible for the assessment of patient care needs and thedevelopment, implementation and evaluation of plans of care, ensuring highstandards of evidence based care using a defined model of care.

To undertake all nursing procedures in accordance with Trust and theatrepolicies and ensure that these procedures and policies are understood.

To ensure communication with patients and significant others is established, ensuring empathy and reassurance regarding, assessment, care and treatment.
