We have an exciting opportunity to join a well-established specialist lead team within Plymouth Community Dental Service, part of Livewell Southwest.

This full time Special Care Band B dentist position provides a great opportunity to develop your skills working alongside our Specialist in Special Care and with access to our Specialists in minor oral surgery and paediatrics. The post also includes an opportunity to train in Special care GA and be part of PCDS teaching/training programme of Medical and Dental students.

Main duties of the job

Main duties:

The job holder will provide comprehensive continuing preventative Dental Care to adults with additional needs and phobic patients.

The post holder will have the opportunity to take part in a range of activities undertaken by our PCDS Special care team to develop their skills with access to specialist expertise.

Facilities:

Well established 16 surgeries across 3 sites within the city, including a wheelchair platform surgery

Use of theatre space within the local acute hospital for GA clinics

Digital Radiography

SOEL Health dental patient system

Full training and support will be provided where required.

  • Provide comprehensive and continuing preventative care dental treatment for patients with special needs mainly adults.
  • This may include dental care under conscious sedation or general anaesthetic where appropriate.
  • Complete Immediate Life Support and mandatory training
  • Perform Urgent dental care for patients who have been unable to access treatment with a general dental practitioner.
  • Be part of PCDS teaching/training programme of Medical and Dental students.
  • Provide professional advice and support to other health workers.
  • Liaison with other dental care providers including within the GDS and Hospital services.
  • Keep comprehensive and accurate records.
  • Administration associated with these duties including completion of appropriate NHS forms and referrals.

  • Take part in clinical audit, peer review and any other clinical governance requirements.
