The Stroke Services at the King’s College Hospital is looking for a clinical expert with a passion and commitment to stroke, compassionate, dynamic and agile with a desire to be at the forefront of the service, leading stroke nursing.

The candidate must be able to influence positive change by bridging theory and practice gap by working closely with both internal and external agencies to promote and maintain safe high quality specialised stroke care.

Main duties of the job

  • To work as an advanced practitioner on the unit and effectively deliver an expert nursing service within the area of Stroke, TIA and thrombolysis
  • To be involved in the process of initiating thrombolysis treatment within agreed protocols.
  • To work in close liaison with the stroke and TIA team facilitating a seamless service for patients throughout the patient pathway.
  • To champion the accurate capture and recording of thrombolysis and TIA pathway data to evidence the service performance against national best practice indicators.
  • To ensure that patients/families are fully informed and supported by providing them with clinical and social support.
  • To lead in obtaining, interpreting and acting upon patient investigations as appropriate and within agreed clinical protocols recognising when and where to seek advice.
  • To support junior staff on the unit through teaching and supervision, working clinically with all grades of staff and acting as a role model.
  • To ensure provision of high quality nurse led follow up both on the ward and in clinic focusing on patient education around prevention and lifestyle issues, compliance and concordance with current drug/treatment regimes.
