Applications are invited for the post of Principle Clinical Scientist within the Department of Microbiology at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. In the Scottish bacterial sexually transmitted infections reference laboratory (SBSTRIL). SBSTIRL provides confirmatory tests and molecular typing of sexually transmitted infections to supply detailed epidemiological information for the benefit of the management of infection throughout Scotland and the United Kingdom. This post is funded by the Nat ional Services Division (NSD) , NSD have a responsibility for ensuring the provision of both national screening programmes and specialist services on behalf of NHS Scotland.

The post will be based in Molecular Diagnostics within the Department of Laboratory Medicine, as well as being part of a group of microbiology reference laboratories based in NHS Lothian. The successful applicant will work with the Clinical Lead, Consultant Clinical Scientists, and Healthcare Science staff to provide a reference laboratory service for SBSTIRL as well as develop the service to provide a comprehensive STI and BBV service. This post will involve communication with medical and scientific colleagues throughout Scotland. The post-holder will also develop new services in accordance with the requirements of the department.

There is an active R&D programmed within the field of molecular and Microbiology and the successful applicant will be encouraged to become directly involved with this and develop their own research interests.

Applicants should be HCPC-registered Clinical Scientists in Microbiology/ Virology.

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/ record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.
