Consultant in Palliative Medicine

Salary £91,474 (GBP) to £121,548 (GBP)

Base Location – Marie Curie Hospice, Glasgow

Applications are invited for this 0.8 WTE substantive consultant post in Palliative Medicine The successful applicant will work as part of the wider multidisciplinary team at Marie Curie Glasgow to clinically lead and provide consultant support. This presents an exciting opportunity for the post holder to join a dynamic team who are continuously striving to provide the best possible end of life experience for the community of North East Glasgow.

The principal place of employment is the Marie Curie Hospice Glasgow but there is potential for the two existing consultants and the new post holder to rotate clinical and managerial roles between the hospice and community. The post-holder will hold an NHS Consultant Contract and an Honorary Marie Curie Contract.

Applicants must have full registration with the General Medical Council, a licence to practise and be eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher Specialist Training leading to a CCT in Palliative Medicine or be within six months of confirmed entry at the date of interview. Non UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training

The main aspects of the role will include:

  • Provision of high quality, flexible and responsive medical care to patients, families and carers, across a variety of care settings, who have complex pain, symptom, spiritual and psychosocial needs which require specialist palliative care interventions
  • To provide medical support and guidance to the multidisciplinary palliative care teams in both hospice and community settings
  • Participation in teaching and educational activities (students, health care professional colleagues, patients and families)
  • Implementation of clinical governance activities e.g. quality improvement, audit of clinical practice, implementation of best practice statements
  • Contribution to service development in line with local and national strategies
  • Working with colleagues to raise the profile of palliative medicine in the care of patients with life threatening illnesses
