We are currently recruiting for a Finance Assistant to work for Thames Valley Police at their North Headquarters in Kidlington, Oxfordshire.

The overall purpose of the role is to: Provide financial administrative support in the provision of accurate, timely and appropriate accounting records and management information

This role is a temporary role for 12 months and you will be office based.

Due to police vetting you will be required to have resided within the UK continuously for at least 5 years.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITY AREAS:

  • Maintain accurate and timely accounting records in accordance with legislation, accounting standards, and force regulations
  • Update financial systems by inputting accurate and timely data; complete any routine administrative functions (including review of requisitions / ECRISs/ raising SSMAI request to invoice customers) within the department.
  • Analyse, collate, extract, reconcile and or manipulate financial data
  • Undertake initial investigations into financial processes and financial data, raising issues and concerns.
  • In relation to the statutory year-end closedown undertake and/or assist with specific tasks adhering to the given timetable.
  • Provide financial administrative advice to other members of the Force ensuring adherence to financial regulations.
  • Assist in the provision of costings and investigations
  • CHARACTERISTICS OF THE ROLE

    ESSENTIAL:

  • Attained AAT level 2 or equivalent qualification
  • Good standard of education with a minimum of 5 GCSEs grade 9-4/A*-C, including maths or equivalent qualifications. Applicants who do not have the required GCSEs but possess relevant qualifications and/or experience will be considered on an individual basis
  • Good level of computer literacy; especially, MS office applications, Excel and databases.
  • Proven ability to produce accurate and reliable data.
  • Proven ability to work as a team member and independently
  • DESIRABLE:

  • Recent experience of working in a financial or administration environment including the provision of accurate, timely and appropriate accounting records and management information
  • Experience of working in a large organisation and knowledge of the public sector would be an advantage.
