Prospectus is pleased to be working with a homelessness charity based in Newham, whose mission is to provide support to people who find themselves sleeping rough in East London by providing a safe and welcoming place to stay, and offering support through the provision of personalised support, educational and life skills opportunities. They are now seeking an Assistant Support Worker to join their Female only Supported Housing Team in East Ham. This position is offered as a temporary assignment initially for 1 month.

As their Assistant Support Worker, you will provide a critical role in supporting the team, providing informal social support to residents. You will work collaboratively with Support Workers to promote resident engagement, through the development of positive relationships and thereby contributing towards the promotion of a fulfilling, safe and inclusive environment. Finally, you will work to contribute towards creating a welcoming and safe environment for residents, this includes maintaining health and safety standards. You will be working closely with the Supported Accommodation team, and team members from other teams in the organisation, to contribute to developing residents’ living skills, particularly around health and wellbeing.

To be considered, you will have experience in building relationships with vulnerable, disadvantaged or excluded client groups, as well as dealing with challenging behaviours within a similar setting to the homelessness sector either in a paid or voluntary capacity. You will have some experience of dealing with complex and difficult behaviours in relation to people and possess the willingness to develop skills to support people who may be in difficult personal or emotional situations. An understanding of, and empathy with the issues faced by people who experience homelessness or rough sleeping and a genuine interest in helping vulnerable adults to make changes in their life is essential.

The working pattern for this position is Average 37.5 hours per week excluding breaks. You will be expected to work a flexible shift pattern that will involve working between Monday to Sunday within the hours 8.00am to 8.00pm on a rota basis. An Enhanced DBS for Adult is essential
