To work as part of the national cancer programme of care, specialised commissioning. Supports the implementation of the NHS Long Term Plan commitments for radiotherapy, working principally through the Radiotherapy Clinical Reference Group, the Learning Healthcare System and national clinical policy team. Responsible for the development of national clinical commissioning policies, primarily within radiotherapy, supporting the identification, development, and adoption of best practice within radiotherapy networks, and informing a national radiotherapy research programme

Main duties of the job

As the national Clinical Fellow for Radiotherapy, the post holder will play a key part in supporting the implementation of the NHS Long Term Plan commitments, working principally through the Radiotherapy Clinical Reference Group and the Learning Healthcare System. The focus of the role is on the development and release of new quality improvement toolkits and reporting for clinicians and services, improving the speed at which proven new treatments are commissioned, as well as the rollout of ProKnow. As the role is jointly sponsored by the Royal College of Radiologists (RCR), the post holder will also have the opportunity to contribute to the work of the Professional Support and Standards Board and its supporting committees, including quality improvement initiatives and engagement with junior fellows.

The post is based within the national Cancer Programme of Care in specialised commissioning and the postholder will receive clinical supervision from the National Specialty Advisor for Radiotherapy and mentorship by both an Officer of the RCR and NHS England’s National Clinical Director for Cancer.
