This is a brand-new opportunity to recruit a full time 10PA Consultant Forensic / General Adult Psychiatrist within the Dorset Forensic Service. This role is based at St Ann’s Hospital in Poole and covers trust-wide working throughout Dorset.
This is a dynamic and developing forensic service that is part of a new care model that has delivered considerable savings for reinvesting in services.

Main duties of the job
We are looking to a recruit an enthusiastic and conscientious professional who is dedicated to providing the best care for our service users and have values (compassion, excellence and expertise) and a vision (Better Every Day) that resonates with that of the Trust.
This role is based at St Ann’s Hospital in Poole and covers working trust wide over the whole of Dorset. The post holder will work within the Dorset Forensic Service, comprising the community forensic team (CQC outstanding) and Twynham ward the low secure unit (CQC good).

Job responsibilities
You will be responsible for the psychiatric care of approximately 10 community forensic team patients, working with the multidisciplinary team and approximately 8 in-patients on Twynham low secure unit. There may be some adjustments to this caseload dependent on the service needs and further discussion with the post holder on areas of interest.
-The postholder will provide assessments on cases referred to the team and will assess patients placed OOA in secure services to monitor their progress and advise on their care pathways. Such duties may include for example attendance at CPA meetings.
-The post holder will take part in the on call rota. The weekly on call rota is Dorset wide, at week-ends the East of the county is paid at 2% on call availability supplement PLUS 0.25APA and in the West of the county is paid at 3% on call availability supplement PLUS 0.75 APA . This is a joint general adult, learning disability, child psychiatry and old age psychiatry senior on-call rota which is supported by Specialist Registrars and AssociateSpecialists.
-There is also a non-resident junior doctor on-call. When on-call the postholder is expected to provide advice and support to junior colleagues on-call, out of hours nursing and social work colleagues. When necessary, it is expected that the on-call consultant will review patients personally. At weekends and on bank holidays there is a consultant led inpatient review for newly admitted patients to address problems with inpatients. Thisensures that all patients admitted to our units are seen by a consultant within the first 24 hours of their admission.
– The postholder will provide cross cover for annual, study and emergency sick leave with Dr Ewbank and Dr Shweikh. These cover arrangements will take account of the other medical staff in the locality team such as the core trainee.
